He nods. “Is this okay now?”

“Yes. This might be my last drink for a year. I guess I should enjoy it.”

He raises his glass. “To knocking you up.”

I smile. “To knocking me up.”

Chapter Twenty-Six

Maggie

There’s a car waitingat the airport for us in the parking garage. It’s not a rental car – or maybe it is. I’m unclear, but we don’t go to a car rental place. It’s just waiting. He already has the keys. It’s a sporty little convertible. We ride with the top down to the house. He knows the way like he’s been there a thousand times, never once looking at a map or GPS.

When we pull up to the house, I can’t mask my surprise. “This is stunning.”

The house is huge, oceanfront. There’s a pool between the house and the ocean. Huge glass windows line the entire back of the house, creating a stunning view of the water.

He takes my hand. “Come on.”

I follow him to the bedroom, and he unzips his bag and pulls out a gift. “Here, I got you something.”

“You didn’t need to get me something,” I say, taking it from him.

He gives me a sly look and says, “Well, it’s for me too. Go ahead. Open it.”

I tear open the wrapping paper and carefully lift the lid off the box. My eyes jerk up to his. His eyes are simmering with desire right now.

Lingerie. He’s never given me lingerie. I’ve never worn it for him. I mean, I wear nice underwear and sometimes matching sets when we’re together, but not like real lingerie. It’s a lacy body suit with thigh high stockings.

So this is what he’s into – interesting.

“One more thing.” He pulls out another box. As soon as I tear the paper on the second one, I see the logo for a very expensive shoe brand. I open the box and pick up the most beautiful pair of black stilettos I’ve ever seen. I’ve never bought shoes this expensive before.

“Do you like it?” he asks.

“Yes. I love it.”
