Chapter Fourteen
Declan
Then
“Hey Olivia.”
She whips her head around. “Declan!”
She walks over, looking like a ray of sunshine and hugs me. “Why are you here?”
“I like to see Will humiliated as much as possible.” I’ve crashed the congressional baseball practice. Will’s assistant, Marissa, texted me that Olivia had volunteered to go, and I could not pass up the opportunity to see where this was headed. Will hired her recently at Elizabeth’s suggestion. A way to hopefully work together instead of destroying each other. Will insists its going fine. I can’t believe that’s true. I’m here to see for myself.
Olivia shakes her head.
“You really crushed it out there.” She was amazing – pitching, no less. I didn’t even think she’d really play.
“You were watching?” Her cheeks redden a little.
“Long enough to see you kick ass. Multitalented. I’m impressed.”
Her pink cheeks turn into a full blush.
“So, Will hired you, huh?” I lean against the fence and take her in. She’s a bit messy and dirty from the game, and she’s just as gorgeous as ever.
She leans in just a little and says, “And he hasn’t even fired me yet.”
I rub my chin and look at her with admiration.
“Hey, wanna grab dinner with me?” I ask.
She nearly chokes. “Me?”
I look around and then whisper. “Well, I’m not asking out Senator Collinsworth.”
She covers her mouth and laughs. “Dinner? Right now?”
“Yeah. Do you have other plans?”
She shakes her head. “No, but I’m kind of gross and dressed like...”
She waves her hand in front of her body.
“It’s fine. I know this amazing hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. The food will change your life. Let me take you.”
