“But what?” she interrupts.
“It felt like trying to kiss my sister.” I probably should have made up another reason.
She doesn’t move or change her facial expression for a moment and then she starts to laugh.
Now I’m the one wrinkling my brow.
“The feeling is mutual.” She leans into me and laughs harder. After a minute, she pulls back and shakes her head. “I don’t get it. I mean on paper...”
She waves her hand between us. “We should be all over each other, but there’s just nothing there, is there? No spark at all.”
I sigh, relieved she feels the same way. “No – nothing at all.”
She wraps her arm around me and starts walking again. “We’ll just have to be friends, won’t we?”
“I’d like that,” I answer.
