She shrugs. “Okay, I’ll get my things.”
I watch her walk over to the dugout to get her things. Will follows her over. I can’t make out what they are saying, but he keeps darting his eyes my direction. I have pissed him off. I know he said to stay away from her, but what does he care? If she’s trouble, that’s my problem, not his.
She heads my direction and I hear her call over her shoulder, “Goodnight, Senator Sterling.”
Chapter Fifteen
Declan
Then
She’s beautiful. Smart. Funny as hell.
I watch Olivia take a big bite out of a taco and lean her head back and groan. She just shakes her head while she chews.
“Life changing, right?” I say with great satisfaction.
She still can’t answer since she took such a big bite. I just watch with a smile until she swallows and gulps down some water. “Oh my god. It’s amazing.”
There’s a creeping emotion that keeps tightening my chest. It feels suspiciously like guilt. I keep trying to push it down. There’s no damn reason why I should feel guilty, but I do. God, I really let myself get too wrapped up with Maggie this summer. I mean, she needed me. I don’t regret it, but...but, I’ve got to move on.
“So Will hasn’t fired you yet?” I say.
“He nearly fired me,” Olivia answers with a laugh. “He should have fired me.”
She stops talking and buries her face in her hands. “Did you listen to that podcast?”
Everyone listened to the podcast. She absolutely trashed him in the most popular current event podcast in the country. I couldn’t care a lick about politics and even I listen to it.
“Yeah. I heard it. “
She groans. “Everyone did. I recorded it before he hired me, and I forgot about it. I should have made sure it didn’t air.”
She puts her hands on her face again and groans again.
I lean back in my chair. “Why didn’t he fire you?”
