Keene: Well, that still doesn’t explain where he is.

Will: I’ll go look for him since he’s not answering his phone.

Chapter Sixty-Seven

Declan

Ihear the golf cartbefore I see it. I don’t look and swing my golf club again. Another terrible swing.

“Oof,” Will calls, getting out of the golf cart. “That’s rough.”

“Well, you should have seen the last ten. They were worse,” I respond without looking his direction.

Eli walks up beside me. “You okay? We’ve been looking for you. Haven’t been answering any texts.”

“I silenced my phone.” I set down another golf ball.

“Okay. You okay though?”

“I’m fine. Just wanted to be alone.” I swing again and completely miss the ball. “Goddammit.”

Will lets out a low whistle but doesn’t say anything.

“Everyone else is going for a hike. Do you want to join?” Eli asks.

I lean on the golf club. “Yeah.”

The driving range isn’t relaxing me, that’s for damned sure.

I collect my things and sit on the back of the golf cart. Will and Eli talk to each other on the ride back. I’m not listening to anything they are saying until Eli says, “What do you think, Declan?”

“Sorry, what? I was zoned out.”

“Just trying to figure out what trail we should take,” Will says as he steers the golf cart in front of the building.

“Doesn’t matter to me.”
