“Say no more,” James says, nodding his head toward the door.

There’s a flurry of activity as everyone gathers their things. I grab Elizabeth’s hand as she walks by. She stops and looks down at me. “Thanks for coming. It means a lot.”

She leans down and hugs me. “We’re excited for you.”

I squeeze her a little tighter. “I can’t wait to come hang out with you at the White House with our babies soon.”

She smiles but somehow she still looks sad. “I’d like that.”

I watch her gather her things and load Everett into his car seat. We say goodbye to everyone. Once they leave, the apartment feels so quiet and empty.

“You okay?” Declan says after he shuts the door.

I yawn. “More than okay, but exhausted.”

“I know.” He walks toward me and extends his hand.

I stand up and he leads me toward the bedroom. I stop in front of the nursery. “I want to see it.”

He flips on the light.

“Oh, wow, you guys got so much done.” I step inside and look in the closet and then in the drawers and storage baskets.

“It’s basically all ready for him besides the little bit of painting that’s left.”

I blink a few times and then start crying.

He grabs my arm. “Hey, what’s wrong?”

I shake my head. “Nothing.”

I wipe my eyes. “We’re just really lucky.”

He wraps his arm around my shoulder and says, “We really are.”
