Keene: Honestly, I wouldn’t have had a clue what I was looking at.

Juno: Yeah. Me neither. Truthfully, I can barely tell it’s a baby.

Brooklyn: A boy! I’m so excited.

Elizabeth: Oh, that’s wonderful news! We need more boys in this family.

Zadie: Micah’s going to be excited, and Isaiah.

Declan: Maggie and I were thinking the same thing. We’re hoping Elizabeth is having a boy too.

Elizabeth: That’s what I’m thinking. We’ll find out soon enough.

Zadie: On the topic of boys, Ethan and I are starting paperwork to adopt Isaiah.

Olivia: Seriously! That’s the best news.

Will: Wow! That’s wonderful.

Declan: Zadie, that’s awesome. He already feels like part of our family. I’m so glad he will be forever.

Zadie: I know. We feel the same way. Can’t wait to make it official.

Chapter Fifty-One

Declan

Maggie is finally lettingme see the mural. She’s been working on it for weeks but hasn’t let me take a peek. I stick the key in her door. She told me to let myself in since she’s in the middle of painting. It’s the first time I’ve used my key since she’s been pregnant. I’m surprised she didn’t demand I give it back. I push open the door and call out, “I’m here...and I’m putting ice cream in your freezer.”

I hear a laugh floating down the hallway, and I smile. After I stick the ice cream in the freezer, I make my way toward the nursery. She meets me at the door, blocking my view.

I stop breathing when I see her. She’s so fucking adorable it’s hard to look at her. She’s wearing paint-splattered overalls with a tank top underneath, barefoot. Her bump pushing against the midsection of the overalls. There’s a bandana tied in her hair and little flecks of paint on her face. I haven’t wanted to kiss her this badly in months.

She frowns. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

I just clear my throat, unsure how to answer.
