Her mischievous, scarlet smile draws my eyes while she scoops one up and places it on my tongue.
My eyes widen. “It’s sweet.”
“Good, right?”
“Oh, yeah!” I groan, wiping droplets of strawberry juice from my bottom lip with my thumb. Dariana’s black dress has a dangerously low neckline, and her silver necklace disappears into her cleavage. I want to follow it with my tongue. Alcohol makes me horny—well, more horny than usual.
“He’s cute!” She points to a human man over by the bar. I take in his white shirt, the two top buttons undone, and his black slacks that hug his thighs just right. The rings on his tattooed fingers glint in the lights behind the bar as he lifts his beer to his lips.
“We should share him,” she whispers in my ear, and my eyes snap to hers.
“Daemon will kill him.”
Scooping a strawberry from my drink, she pops it in her mouth. “Daemon isn’t here.”
My gaze is fixed on her lips.
“He’s probably with some girl right now.”
I look down at my drink, swirling the straw through the pieces of fruit. “Don’t remind me, please.”
She watches me throw my drink back. I’m already feeling the effects of the alcohol. “Are you not hungry? When was the last time you fed?”
I went all my life without feeding on humans, and now I crave blood like some mythological vampire. Just one more negative thing to add to the list of reasons why it’s a bad idea to sneak out of Eden.
“Let’s share him,” she coaxes. “It’ll be fun. Just you and me and a hot human man.”
“But Daemon—”
“So what if he kills him? We’ll kill him anyway.”
I wince and she pinches my chin, forcing my eyes back to hers. “It’s nature. Why would your God create predators if we weren’t meant to hunt prey? Why do spiders eat flies? And lions, antelopes? We’re just higher up the food chain than him.”
I consider her words while I study the human man. He has a nice smile, straight white teeth with a dimple on his cheek, and a tattoo on the side of his neck. His brown hair is kept short on the sides and longer on the top.
“Do humans fuck as good as angels?”
Dariana chokes on her drink and it takes her a moment to stop coughing, but her eyes glitter with amusement when she does. “Why don’t we find out?”
“I don’t know,” I say, dropping my gaze to the floor. “Daemon—”
“Stop worrying about Daemon. Let him fucking stew.”
“Do you think that’s fair?”
“Yes!” she exclaims, exasperated. “I think it’s fair. He stole you from Eden. When you arrived at his house, you’d never felt anything but complete contentment. Now you feel all these emotions that you don’t know how to handle. Daemon, on the other hand, has no excuse for his behavior. He’s had a lifetime to learn how to wrangle his explosive temper, but you, little angel, you’ve only had a matter of months. He said it himself: he saw you and he wanted you, so he took you. Now, you want to feed on that human, so go over there and take what you want. Do something for yourself for once. Put yourself first.”
“You’re very eager for me to betray Daemon.”
“Oh, for fuck’s sake,” she growls, “you’re about to seduce your meal. That’s not cheating. What do you think the boys do before they eat? They seduce those girls every damn fucking time.” She takes my hand and steers me over to the man, who lowers his drink when she trails her manicured fingers up his chest.
“You look like you know how to show two women a good time.”
He swallows the beer in his mouth as his hazel eyes trail over to me and dip to my chest. “Want another drink?”
Dariana darts her tongue out, sweeping it across her bottom lip. “Why don’t we skip the formalities and jump straight to it? Hmm? Why don’t you take us somewhere more private?”
Placing his beer down on the bar, he pushes off and slides his arms around our waists. “Let’s go.”
