Page 66 of Begin Again, Part 2

"Everyone says it's his first time taking time off since he took over as CEO. Do you think he's okay?"

"Why are you asking me?" Eden remained tight-lipped, even though she had a pretty good idea why Liam suddenly decided to play hooky.

Good, she thought with some satisfaction as she fired up her laptop to start her day; she couldn't be the only one having a miserable day.

"Well, you are his work wife," Clara pointed out.

"And so are you," Eden argued, holding firm for another five minutes as she warded off all her friend's attempts to get her to spill the tea on Liam.

Eventually, Clara gave up and changed the subject when it became obvious she wouldn't get anything from her. "Anyway, your office is ready. You can move in any time."

Eden smiled and thanked her for the heads up as she contemplated her stationery box with all her worldly possessions. She wasn't in the mood for another move. But being shoved in the middle of nowhere, and with Liam constantly glaring at her through the glass now that things between them had gone to shit, was giving her major anxiety.

"Come on, let's check it out." Clara pulled her to her feet and dragged her into Gibby's old office, where they spent a few minutes gushing over the renovations.

As happy as Eden was to have an office that wasn't the size of a broom closet, she couldn't help being a little annoyed at the sight of the Ming vase and the painting. "I thought he got rid of them?"

"Are you nuts?" Clara was horrified at her silly utterances. "Those pieces cost R750K. Why would he get rid of them? They were in storage."

Eden shrugged and tested out her ergonomic chair, a cream one this time to go with the rest of the furniture. She still hadn't figured out what ergonomic-what-not meant. But she guessed it had a lot to do with comfort and posture because she could melt into this chair, just like her old one.

She sighed dreamily as she spun around and stared at the view of Castle Bridge, surprised to see Liam's telescope propped in front of the window.

Was it a peace offering of sorts?

She fumed at the thought. After the hell he put her through, it would take a lot more than a telescope to get in her good books—

"Eden!" Clara waved at her, breaking through her thoughts. "I don't mean to pry, but you and Liam?"

"He's Aiden's father," she blurted out. It was only a matter of time before everyone knew anyway. She figured she might as well tell her friend first before she heard it elsewhere.

"Oh, my God!" Clara screeched and collapsed on the tan couch in front of the glass bookcase. "You have a baby Dragon!"

"He's not a baby Dragon," Eden said, making a zipping motion over her lips with her finger. "And this stays between us. I'm only letting you know because it's bound to come out soon."

Clara nodded emphatically. "Your secret is safe with me."

"I trust you," Eden said as she left the office to collect her stuff from her middle of nowhere desk.

When she walked back in, Clara was still on the couch, her eyes sparkling with curiosity and endless questions. But no matter how long she sat there, looking at her with puppy-dog eyes, Eden wouldn't share any more details about her relationship with Liam.

Yawning loudly, Clara stood up and stretched. "Anyway, the daddy Dragon called before you came in and asked you to drop everything and meet him at his penthouse in Green Point."

"Thanks," Eden said, making no promises. She'd figured he wanted to meet after his hundred calls. But she was still so furious with him. And if her father was right, and Liam was now trying to renegotiate the custody agreement, she'd let him stew a little.

"Do you want to grab lunch today?" Clara asked as she headed for the door.

Eden barely heard, her mind was already on the proposal in front of her, and for over an hour, she lost herself in her marketing plan. Her progress was halted when the group chat exploded with texts from her friends, demanding to know if her cold war with Liam was still raging on.

She decided to call them. Sending texts wasn't the most efficient way to give them a blow-by-blow account of her hellish four days.

She spent fifteen minutes updating them on her nightmare of a morning at Thomas Blaine Inc. They were outraged and wanted Liam's blood. No matter how hard Eden tried to convince them she was okay and didn't need reinforcement since the meeting with the lawyers was already over, they insisted on driving over to Anderson Logistics.

They were there in twenty minutes, and Eden had to go through the trouble of signing them in because they wanted to see her posh office.

They all forgot their fury at Liam as soon as they stepped inside. Lydia ran to the fancy chair, while Cassandra and Sienna gawked at the vase and the painting.

"I thought you gave them back?" Sienna accused.
