"Because you just found out about Aiden, and now..."
"Now our family will be complete," he pulled her down, and she nestled in his arms, careful not to touch his wound. "I love you three so much! The idea of never seeing you again almost killed me."
"I was so terrified," Eden admitted, her voice muffled. "Liam, I thought I'd lose my mind when the doctor came out of the operating room, and his face looked so grim."
"Hey," he lifted her chin and kissed her slowly. "I'm here."
"But you were almost not," she shook her head. "You still think my plan is crazy?"
"Which one? Selling paintings on the side of the road?"
"Watch it!" she smacked his arm gently.
"Ouch!" he grumbled. "You are not nice, Ms McBride! I'm sick, you know."
"You're not sick. You were shot."
"There's a difference?" he smirked, and Eden rolled her eyes.
"You've only been awake for five minutes and —"
"Since 10:00 AM, and you have no idea what they did to me. They shoved things down my—Speaking of—" Liam pushed her away and lifted the covers.
"What are you doing?" Eden asked in disbelief, convinced he was messing with her.
But he sounded dead serious when he replied. "I'm checking if everything is still here. I should have done it much sooner. You never know with these surgeries. Maybe they removed the wrong thing."
"Why would the doctor remove your dick, Liam?" she asked, a perplexed frown in her eyes.
"Well, you'd be the saddest of the two of us if they did," he pointed out and brought the covers back down. "Good, everything is still here. Now come here, let's make sure it still works!"
"Are you sure you were shot?" Eden asked.
Liam laughed heartily as he tightened his hold around her. "I'm only teasing you, Princess. As much as I'd love to bend you over right now and fuck you good, my performance will be subpar, and I'm a perfectionist."
"Don't I know it!" She was glad to see that he still had his sense of humour, despite being black and blue all over. She snuggled closer and breathed in his scent, relieved to have him back.
"We have to tell Clara and everyone at the office. They were so worried."
"Not now," he sighed in her hair. "Right now, I want to hold you and baby number two while I think about baby number one. Is he okay?"
"He asked about you this morning. I'll bring him this evening."
"Why? I'm coming home."
"Nice try!" Eden laughed. "You have to be here for another two weeks."
"Where are my Burberry PJs? I can't wear this shit for two weeks," he pointed at the hospital gown. "Though it's a bit liberating, I must say. I guess this is how you feel when you go commando!"
"Liam!" Eden groaned. "I don't go commando."
"No judgement here," he laughed. "Easy access."
"Hush now," she pulled away from him. "Are you hungry?"
"I could eat a horse," he admitted. But when she tried to leave him to get him something to eat, he refused to let her go.
"Stay here," he said. "Stay in my arms. James will bring me something to eat."
