Page 67 of Begin Again, Part 1

"Where are we going?" she asked as they drove away. "I have to let Matthew know—"

"He knows you're with me," he said in a gentler tone, his gaze lingering on her face, his eyes stormy as they caressed her lips.

She stared back at him, trying to figure out what he was thinking.

"Do you like him?" Liam asked, stunning her with his question.

"That's not your business," Eden replied as she crossed her arms and glanced at the skyscrapers and bustling sidewalks zooming by.

"I guess you don't." He sounded pretty chuffed as he eased back on the plush leather seat and rolled down his window.

"How did you even conclude that?"

"You would have said so if you do," Liam smirked and looked through his phone.

"Well, I don't like you!" Eden snapped and crossed her arms. It was a lie, of course. She liked him so much it hurt. Even when he was an asshole and a mean jerk half the time, she still liked him. She still wished he could like her back, even a little bit. Never mind that he was married with kids of his own.

"I don't like you," she repeated just to convince herself.

"That's okay, Princess." Liam nodded. "I don't need you to like me. I just need you to fix me."

Before she could ask him what he meant, they stopped in front of Medical Mews. Liam pushed her out of the door and led her inside the building. His hand, resting on the small of her back, sent her heart rate skyrocketing.

"Why are we using a service elevator?" Eden asked.

"You ask too many questions. One more question, one more word from you, and I'll kiss you."

His threat set off a kaleidoscope of butterflies in her tummy and her pulse soaring, but she had to have the last word. "You won't—"

Liam's hot, soft lips descended on hers, crushing her mouth into submission, his tongue demanding entry. She kissed him back with the same passion, matching his rhythm, her arms encircling his waist as his fingers glided through her hair.

The elevator dinged on the fifth floor, and they sprung apart just as the doors slid open.

"Be good," Liam said as he led her to a quiet reception area where a heavyset, dark-haired woman waited for them.

"I'm Dr Linda Swartz. You must be Eden McBride. I've heard so much about you. I'm Liam's therapist."

Eden gawked at her, convinced she was losing her mind.

Chapter

Twenty-Three

I MAKE THEM LEAVE

They sat in stony silence for the first ten minutes, with Linda happy to observe them and take notes.

Eden looked at everything but Liam and his therapist while his gaze remained on her. He'd decided to stand in front of the window for some unfathomable reason, even though there was plenty of room on the couch.

Unable to take the silence and suspense any longer, Eden addressed the therapist. "I'm not sure why I'm here."

Leaning back in her chair, Linda snapped her notebook shut and brought her up to speed on the reasons for Liam's weekly sessions with her.

Eden sat in numb disbelief, her gaze shifting between Linda and Liam, convinced they had both lost their minds or she was stuck in a dream that didn't make any sense.

Liam had obviously lied about his erectile dysfunction. She'd felt his hard-on when they kissed in the meeting room on orientation day and in his office yesterday. He could clearly get it up.

"That's not true," Eden said, shaking her head. "He does not have any issues. I felt his—"
