Sure worked. He’d cleaned up real nice, and was dancing with another woman.

“I know you like chocolate.”

“Hard guess. I’m a girl.”

“Angelina told me you like chocolate, but youlovedark chocolate.” He pushed open the banquet room door. “Welcome to heaven.”

My eyes went straight to a dark chocolate fountain propped in the middle of the room. It was the centerpiece with carved chocolate roses. The succulent scent of chocolate curled around my sense of smell.

“The bride loves dark chocolate, too. Come on.”

We hustled to the table, and there were at least three trays of strawberries sitting there. “Oh my gosh.”

“Bananas, Oreos, you name it. They had anything and everything you could ever think of to dip in this fountain.” Doug laughed. “No dinner, just this. And now, they rented out the top floor of Club Noir.”

“Wow.” That was the hottest club this side of the city.

“They know how to have fun.”

“Early wedding, chocolate for dinner, then a night of dancing… I’d say.”

“Guess that’s what it’s supposed to be about, your wedding, I mean, having fun. Doing it your way.”

“I guess.” I reached for a Twinkie.

“Those are really good.”

I dipped it into the chocolate goodness and took a bite. Talk about a myriad of flavors and textures. “Oh my gosh! You have got to tell Angelina about this.”

“She’s on her way down.”

I laughed and double dipped my Twinkie. I didn’t care. It was heaven.

“Lizzie!” Angelina yelled from behind me. “I’ve died and gone to heaven.”

“Did you bring some candy corn to dip?”

She held up a small bag. “Hunter got me some last night.”

“Sweet!”

This was exactly what I needed. Friends and chocolate. That’d get me the courage to ask Damon what was up with that girl he was dancing with.

“When’s the date?” Angelina asked.

Doug offered me a small smile. It was then that I realized what Sarah had said about him giving me eyes was true. I wasn’t sure what to think about that.

What to think about anything right now other than chocolate binging.

I bit into a chocolaty strawberry, buying some time. I couldn’t mention anything in front of Doug. He might get the wrong idea. I wasn’t even sure what was going on. I could be totally misreading everything. Though that was a little hard considering how he was holding her. She was smiling, and they were dancing.

She’d even brushed hair off his forehead. That stung the most.

Angelina jumped and pulled out her phone. “Dang it! I forgot!”

“What?”

“Meeting with Dad at one of the hotels in Paris.” She swiped a strawberry, dipped it, and then waved goodbye.
