“I’m glad you moved to town,” she said beneath the roar of laughter surrounding their table. “My life is changed.”
Kayla was caught midchew of her food, so all Tove had to go by were her blushing cheeks. Once Kayla swallowed, she said, “Your life is changed? How do you think mine has gone since I came here?”
“You’ve bagged yourself a Fredriksson, so not terribly.”
“Um, there’s one worth three times as much as you right there. You think I’m intimidated by a pregnant wife? Tove, I’ve had men get divorced because of this ass.”
“Yet you’re with me. Must not be too bad.”
“There is something to be said for your sweet, succulent stability.” Kayla could hardly say that with a straight face. “Can’t wait to chip away at that as we get older.”
“Is that athreat?”
Nobody understood why Tove and Kayla were giggling at their corner of the table. Nobody would understand. That’s why I’m in love.Tove had found the one person in her corner of the world whogother. What made her tick. What she was afraid of. What got her out of bed in the morning, and what made her excited to go to bed. The bumps in their mutual road had only served to bring them closer together in the end. Her family liked – or tolerated – Kayla well enough now. Tove’s social life had expanded because of Kayla. Her need to get out of town more often and explore the world was because of Kayla.
She loved to think about what she inspired in her girlfriend, who had helped make one of Tove’s biggest dreams come true.
She thinks it’s the shop. In reality, it’s her right here… with me.
Tove would do anything for her. Including watching trashy reality TV. Just for Kayla.
Just for her, and no one else.
