Page 90 of Just For Her

Tove came closer, snaking her arm up the length of the door and pushing it against the wall behind Kayla. She went with it, playing it cool even when her adrenaline pushed her to hiccup in surprise.

It wasn’t only the sudden movement of the door that got her. It was Tove’s undeniable presence as she loomed over Kayla and held herself back from a kiss that might seal whether they ever got back together again.

Such pleasure was on the tip of Kayla’s tongue. All she had to do was wait for Tove to take control.

“You’re the only woman I see myself spending the rest of this life with.”

Kayla hid her smug smile behind a coif of her hair. “Sounds like that comes with a stipulation.”

“Oh, it does. We’ve gotta get something out of the way before I’m allowed to fall head over heels in love with you again.”

“Again? You mean you weren’t in love with me for a while?” Kayla performed a pout of artistic magnitude. “Even when you were your maddest at me?”

“No amount of baby talk will change the subject.”

Only then did Kayla let her ex see a glimmer of a grin. “What do you have to do, huh? Spank me for being an insolent gold digger?”

If only Kayla knew the half of it.

Chapter 26

Itwasn’tKayla’sfirsttime lying face down on Tove’s bed. Nor was it her first time anticipating the kind of sweet surrender that might break her heart in two before fusing it back together again.

It was, however, the first time since their breakup on the morning of their elopement.

This is how it was supposed to be since then.Kayla wasn’t the kind to dwell on her attractions. Some of them, like enjoying sex with Tove, may have surprised her at first, but she didn’t question what itreallymeant about her. Part of getting through life was accepting that she might continue to surprise herself. Including now, when she vibrated with anticipation.

Tove had not touched her. She had hardly touched Kayla at all since they briefly held hands by the river. Now, with the promise of lovemaking on the horizon? Kayla could hardly hold back the preemptive moans and undulations of pleasure that were sure to come for her in the next few minutes.

Except Tove had not touched her. She bid her time at the edge of her big bed, where she had Kayla lying with her face between the two pillows.

She recalled the nights she had spent in this bed.Nights sleeping next to her… and nights making love to her.Kayla had experienced the kind of “firsts” in this bed that she had long thought she was too old to get excited by again. Yet here she was, ready to take the plunge.

Everything new. Everything hot and on fire.

“I may have forgiven you for lying to me so much,” Tove said from her perch by the bedroom window, “but I don’t know if we can move on until I get some things off my chest.”

Kayla bit her lip and buried her face between both pillows. They sandwiched her cheeks, much like she wanted to be completely engulfed by Tove’s body.

“You lied about being avegetarian.Come on. Low blow.”

“I…”

Tove cut her off. “No, you don’t get to argue. This is my time to air some grievances while I watch you squirm.”

Kayla slowly turned her head toward Tove, hiding her giddiness within her pillowy cave.Oh, I’ll squirm for you all you want.

“You lied about being a vegetarian, you lied about skiing, you even lied about liking my favorite cider. Oh, and you lied about being bi.”

That’s not a lie anymore.Kayla brought one of her knees up closer to her chest. Before getting on Tove’s bed, she had taken off her shorts, expecting her ex to jump her. Instead, Tove began her vigil by the window, as if she were a shadow in the corner of her room.

“What am I going to do with you?” Tove stretched her neck one way before rolling it the other. “How I do make it clear to you that when you lie, there are repercussions?”

Although Kayla knew she shouldn’t say anything, she couldn’t help but reply, “You could take away my toys.”

“What toys? I own all the toys. I thought that was why you liked me. How much Iown.”

“Does that mean you own me now?”
