“And what will you do if she refuses to tell you what you need to know?”
“I’ll cross that bridge, Nicole.”
“We’re getting texts, too. This message is from Lauren in Dallas. ‘What’s with your obsession, Ryan? What are you getting out of this? The woman served her time. Let her be.’”
“I respect your opinion, but I don’t agree with it,” Ryan says.
“Back to callers. Next,” Shane says.
“Hi, I’m Darby from Melbourne, Australia. Magda will never be a proper member of society. I doubt her claim that she was a victim of her husband’s abuse. I think she was the brains behind their killing rampage. The sickest aspect is how she used her child, her own baby. So evil. She should be locked up.”
“I agree,” Ryan says.
“Next caller,” Shane says.
“Juanita, from Mexico City. I hope you find Magda and can bring your sister home, Ryan.”
“Thank you, Juanita,” Ryan says.
“Next caller,” Shane says.
“I’m Lynn, calling from Chicago. Ryan, you can save yourself a lot of grief. You’re wasting your time.”
“Excuse me?”
“I have concrete information that Magda was using the name Sharon Ellen Vernay when she was killed five years ago in a car crash in Ontario, Canada.”
A long silence follows before Ryan breaks it.
“You have this verified?”
“Yes.”
“Lynn,” Sonya says, “Ontario’s a large province. Do you know where this crash happened?”
“In the northern part along the Trans-Canada Highway.”
“That doesn’t really narrow it down,” Sonya says. “Are you sure about this?”
“Absolutely. Magda’s dead.”
“How did you come by this information, Lynn?” Ryan asks. “Is it documented?”
“I have relatives in law enforcement, with the Ontario Provincial Police.”
“Would you be willing to help me verify this information?” Ryan asks.
“Just do a little digging. You’re a skilled pro, you can confirm it yourself.”
The call ends, punctuated with a moment of silence.
“What do you think, Ryan?” Shane asks.
“I don’t know. I’ll definitely look into it.”
“Next caller,” Shane said.
“Wendy in Salt Lake City. I think Magda has to go back to prison. We’re not safe with her out there after the unspeakable crimes she’s committed.”
