I laugh. “Have a good day, Danny.”
“See you later.”
He closes the car door and walks up to the building.
Chapter Fifteen
Hayley
“WHY THE FUCK DID YOUtext him?” I ask Tristian as I approach Ryan’s front door.
“Because I knew you wouldn’t have the balls to do it.”
“I was going to break up with him! You didn’t need to hurt him like that. I still have to live with him!”
“Tell him to shut his mouth, or I’ll wire his jaw closed for him.” He puts a cigarette up to his lips. We start walking down the street.
“What is your obsession with fighting him? He doesn’t want to fight you!”
“Tacos?” Tristian asks.
That was out of nowhere, but tacos do sound good right now.
“Sure... Okay.” I dig around my purse.
“I have money,” he says.
“I wasn’t looking for money. I have this for you.” I pull the spare key out of my purse. “You wanted it, right?”
He takes the cigarette out of his mouth, exhales, and smiles...like he’s been waiting for this day forever.
“Thank you.”
I place it in his hand, and he wraps his fingers slowly around it. He’s completely still for a couple of seconds.
“Just do not cause any trouble with Peter, please.”
“I’ll try. You know how he is.”
“Clean up after yourself if I’m not home. Don’t leave any evidence that you were there.”
“Yup.”
“And don’t steal anything, Tristian! I’m trusting you.”
“Shut up, already! You changed since you got with him.”
“No, I haven’t. I’m just asking you to listen to me.”
“Scared he’ll kick you out?”
“Sometimes I don’t know with him. He has like a switch in his brain or something. He can be the sweetest little thing, then the next minute it’s like a bomb goes off in his head.”
“I’m not afraid of a little fucking troll. I’ll put him six feet under.”
“Stop saying that.”
“Why?”
