“Wife?” Alex sputtered, looking at me. “What is he talking about?”
My face paled. Did he just say wife? He hadn’t even asked me. Something was seriously wrong here. I’ve never seen Alex act this way before. Always the first to help, Alex was a sweet man who rarely got angry. This man before me was someone I didn’t know. Doing the only thing I knew, I placed my hand in Vicious’ and lied. “Yes. Gregory and I are married.”
Alex looked at Sarah, who narrowed her eyes. “As the spare, you are within your right to marry whom you choose, but when it comes to the heir, there are rules in place concerning her safety and well-being. Marrying a known biker with affiliations to a shady motorcycle club is a direct detriment to her safety. God Linsey, the Golden Skulls have been in the news for months. What were you thinking, exposing the heir like that? I’m sorry, but I have to agree with Alex. The heir isn’t safe here. We will be taking the girls. Since you are only the aunt, I will recommend to the board that another guardian is to be chosen immediately.”
“Wait just a damn minute,” I retorted. I didn’t know what the hell was wrong with Alex or Sarah, but to stand there and accuse me of purposefully putting my nieces in harms way was the last straw. “Alex, you told me to take the girls to the compound. You told me you vetted every brother and we would be safe there. Sarah even told me to seek out Gregory because he would understand and possibly help. Why are you lying?
“I have no idea what you are talking about, Linsey. I told you to stay away from the Golden Skulls, not fuck one of them.”
I gasped.
“Get the fuck out of here. You are not taking my daughter anywhere, lady.”
All eyes snapped to Fury, who was still standing at the top of the stairs, holding Arianna in his arms. Her little face tucked under his chin as she sucked her thumb. “I don’t give a flying fuck what you think or say. You try taking my girls from their aunt and no one will ever find your bodies. You want to test me, then go ahead.”
Rushing up the stairs, I stood next to Fury as he placed Adrianna in my arms. Her whimpers cut me to the bone. “Linnie, I wanna stay with you and Daddy.”
Rubbing her back, I watched Fury slowly walk down the stairs as brothers that I didn’t know were here came out of rooms, making themselves known. “You come into my brother’s home, demanding to see the girls. You look at them as if they are nothing but an experiment. You, lord yourselves over them, thinking you have all the authority. You don’t have shit, bitch. You are nothing. I am their father. I have the DNA to prove it. You think you can bully my daughter’s aunt? A woman who has devoted her whole fucking life to that fucked up family, who dropped everything to care for my daughters. She is a fucking saint! Now my brother has asked you twice to leave. I suggest you do so before I show you how I got my name.”
“Fury,” Montana whispered, standing close to the irate brother. Malice and Payne moved behind him as Vicious stood his ground. When neither Alex nor Sarah said a word, Vicious grinned. “I would like you to meet Christian Moreno.”
My cousins gasped, both taking a step back.
“By your expressions, you know who I am. Now, get the fuck out of here before I really lose my temper.” Fury seethed.
Before I could blink, Sarah reached for Alex’s arm, pulling him towards the door that Vicious had opened. When they left, he slammed the door shut.
Making my way down the stairs, I watched as Montana whispered something to Fury. The once calm, happy man nodded, his body stiff with tension. I knew of Christian through my sister Davina, who only spoke highly of him. Even on the few occasions when I met Christian, he was a kind, genial man. I honestly knew nothing of the man personally or what he did for a living, other than he was the father of the girls and a brother in the Soulless Sinners Motorcycle Club. As for who the man truly was, that was still a mystery.
“I want the girls protected at all times. I mean it, Prez. A brother with them always and I’m taking the penthouse across the hall. Tell Mercy to make it happen. I ain’t leaving my girls unprotected,” he stated adamantly.
“We can make that happen, Fury, but I need you to take a deep breath, brother. Can’t have you losing it here.”
“Daddy?” Adrianna whispered.
Fury turned towards me. The anger he was trying to control was instantly gone. Reaching for his daughter, he hugged her to him as he looked at me. “I’m sorry Linsey. I didn’t expect it. I don’t understand. I never wanted.”
Walking up to him, I understood what he was having a challenging time trying to explain. The parental need to protect could be extremely overwhelming. For a man who never wanted children, the emotions he was feeling had to be immense, overwhelming. “They are easy to love, aren’t they? You did nothing wrong, Fury. Don’t apologize for protecting your daughters. You never have to apologize for that. Ever.”
It was late when I found myself sitting on the bed waiting for Vicious to come out of the bathroom. With all the excitement, I never had a chance to talk to Vicious about his declaration. Did he really mean what he said? Did he want to marry me? I knew he gave up everything for me and the girls, made sure that we were safe and protected. He even stood with me against the board. Yet, he said nothing. He never mentioned it. Not one word.
I listened as the shower shut off. Nervously, I sat there, wanting to talk to him about what he said. I didn’t want to push the matter if he only uttered those words as a deflection, but if he was serious, then that was different.
The bathroom door opened and Vicious walked out, only wearing a towel low on his hips. Staring at him, my heart fluttered. He was a beautiful man. Tall, muscular in all the right spots. Even for someone his age, he sported a defined six-pack, but it was his tattoos. Those distinguishing works of art made him stand out against all the others. The man was a walking, talking work of art and knowing that I got to sleep next to him, had my body tingling all over. Age never bothered me. I knew that Vicious was a good fifteen years older than me. But we clicked in ways I never thought possible. I never fit in with boys my age. Maybe it was because of how my mother raised me. I didn’t know. All I knew was that in the time I’ve been with Vicious, I couldn’t imagine my life without him. He had become my everything. The man I leaned on, respected, admired, wanted to wake up to every morning. I was in love with Vicious.
“You’re staring, woman.”
“Can’t help it. There’s a lot to stare at.”
Vicious chuckled. “You are good for my ego, babe.”
“You don’t have an ego.”
“True, but it’s nice knowing that I can still make my woman blush.”
“Is that what I am? Your woman?” I carefully asked, not wanting to push the matter if it wasn’t what he wanted.
He dropped the towel and turned towards me. My eyes roamed up and down his tight, fit body while I licked my lips. Dear God, how could a man make my body come alive without even touching me? That’s what he did. Just one look. One smile, one grin, and I was gone. There were many times he would just hold me and then he’d do this growly thing deep in his chest and I swear my lady parts would ignite and instantly soak my panties. Never met a man able to do that to me. I mean, I’ve heard about it before, had friends who said that it can happen, but I never experienced it.
