Mia glanced at me and I smiled at her, gently squeezing her thigh before we stood to follow my father to the dining room.
"I asked Bianca to make one of your favorites." My father grinned as we took our seats.
Bianca and Lucia came out to bring the wine and first course. When Lucia went to fill Mia's glass, Mia placed her hand over the glass. "None for me tonight, thank you."
"No wine?" My father glanced up curiously. Mia tensed and looked at me.
Excitement bubbled up in my chest, the conversation from before pushed to the back of my mind, and I gave Mia a nod of encouragement.
"Well, actually..." Mia hesitated.
"We have some news," I finished her sentence and gave her a nod to continue.
"News?" My father's tone lifted, sounding hopeful and I knew he'd already figured it out or at the very least, had a pretty good guess as to what it was.
"I'm pregnant," Mia announced happily.
All formality was lost as Lucia practically squealed and hugged Mia. My father stood and embraced me.
"You're going to be a father," he said proudly. "Congratulations, my son. Congratulations to both of you." He hurried over to Mia and gave her a hug as well. I laughed as she looked slightly flustered by the act of affection from my usually stoic father but the news was cause for celebration.
“We need to call your brother and sister,” my father said excitedly.
Just then, my phone rang and I pulled it out. “This is Alessandro.”
“Take it. We’ll call Nic and Mira after.” My father turned to Mia and as I stepped out of the door I smiled as I overheard him say, “now, if it’s a boy, you’re going to name him after me, right?”
I swiped the button on my phone to answer. “Hello?”
“Teo?” Alessandro’s voice came through.
“Yeah.”
"We got him. We got the bastard and his men. Took them out while they were at their meeting so we were able to get them all at once.”
“That’s fantastic."
"There's been no sign of Domenico, though."
"He probably slithered back home like the snake that he is."
"If he was ever even in Corsica. He could have been calling the shots from his papa's plush mansion for all we know."
"Either way, this news couldn’t have come at a better time. Thank you, my friend.”
“Trust me, I was happy to do it. Has there still been no word on Gabe?”
“None. We’ve got people watching his wife in case he tries to reach out, though.”
“We’ll find him eventually.” I nodded to myself at his words.
“Do you need transport home?”
“No. We’ve got a cargo ship. We’re heading that way now.”
“Any casualties on our side?”
“Two of my guys,” his voice deflated slightly at the mention of the loss. “Luca lost three of his men and a bullet grazed him as well.”
