“Whatever happened,” I said. “You’ll have clean hands. I’ll never tell anyone where this information came from. It stays between the three of us. Your father will never know and neither will Sandro. I owe you that.”
“I don’t want to be responsible for Vincent’s death.” He paced the room. “You were eventually going to find out.”
“You’re not responsible for what happens to him. He did that all on his own. He should have come after me. Instead, he killed an innocent woman.”Fuck!I should have killed him when he took Luciana. If I had shown no mercy then, Stella would still be alive.“I know this wasn’t an easy choice for you, but I won’t forget this. I won’t forget your loyalty.”
“Maybe my father could handle this situation,” Rocco said. “Like Gio said, what if we banished him from all the business? What if he sent him away?”
“What if that was just the beginning? What if he comes after me again? What if he hurts Luciana?” I shouted. “He invaded my home. He broke Lu’s heart when he murdered Stella.”
“Romero,” Gio said before being interrupted by the ring of his phone. “It’s Jag.”
“Jag?” What the hell did he want? “Isn’t he supposed to be guarding the downstairs door?”
“Jag,” Gio answered. “What’s up?”
I sat on the edge of my desk, processing what Rocco had revealed. He had to have known I would retaliate once I learned the truth.
“She did what?” Gio’s surprised tone alerted me that we might have a problem. “Are you sure it was her?”
“Who?” I asked.
Gio held up his hand as he listened to Jag. “I don’t know,” he said. “Hold on a second.” He looked at me. “We have a problem.”
“What kind of problem?”
“According to Jag, Luciana took one of my cars and headed out of the city. Jag followed her, but there was an accident on the turnpike, and he can’t get around it, but she did before they blocked it off.”
“What the fuck is he talking about?” I walked to the door, and swung it open. “Luciana,” I yelled. “She’s upstairs. Why would she take your car? Maybe I hit Jag too hard and he lost some brain cells.”Fucking idiot. “Lu,” I shouted as I walked into the hallway.
Gio and Rocco followed me.
“She’s upstairs,” I said.
“Are you sure?” Rocco asked.
“That’s where I left her.” After I told her if she wanted to leave me, I would always take care of her. “Lu!”
Sam came inside from guarding the hallway. “What’s going on?”
“Where’s Luciana?” I ran up the stairs and to the bedroom. The door was open, but she wasn’t there. “Did she leave here?”
“Not through the front door.” Sam joined me in the hall. “I would have seen her.”
“The fire escape,” Gio said. “If she wanted to leave without being detected.”
“Could someone have come in that way?” The thought of her being taken from me again crept into my head.
“Jag said she was alone when she got into my car and drove off.” Gio took out his phone. “I’ll check the app and see where she’s headed.”
I didn’t wait for him to find her location. I hurried back downstairs and to the study to grab my phone. This woman would be the death of me. How was I supposed to keep her safe if she ran off without telling me?
I called her phone, but it went to voicemail. “Fuck!”
“She’s probably driving and can’t pick up,” Rocco said.
“She picks now to be safe?” I called her phone again. “Did you get her location?”
“I don’t think you’re going to like it,” Gio said.
