“I’m always happy.” Her smile drops. “Unless provoked.” That makes me smile because in the blink of an eye she went from sunshine to deadly. She is what one would call stealthy. People think they can get away with shit all the while she is marking down their every move. I’m sure reporting it back to Victor.

“I believe it.”

“So tea?” The smile comes back.

“No thank you. I just need to see Victor.”

“Of course.” She motions for me to follow her. We turn down a hallway and she points at two double doors. “That’s his office. I’ll leave you two alone. If you need anything at all just ring me.” She turns back to her desk, leaving me alone in the long hallway. I look at the doors knowing this is it. I’ve come this far. There's no backing down now.

VICTOR

Iwatch on the monitor as Mackenzie stares at my door for a moment. “Come to me,” I grit under my breath, wanting it to be her choice. These last four days have been some of the hardest of my life. She is so close now, finally coming for me. I barely beat her back here. I’ve been sitting outside her building all morning, waiting for her to finally snap.

When I watched her walk out of her building this morning to go to work, I could tell she was tired. That she wasn't sleeping as she should be. I’m not sure about eating either. It almost broke me. I wanted to go to her and give her everything she needed. To pleasure her with my mouth until she passed out, getting the rest she needed. Then feed her from my hand to know she was properly cared for. I know she can take care of herself but I want the honor of doing it myself.

She stands up a little straighter, heading for my door. I’m guessing she gave herself a small pep talk. I flick the monitors off a second before she pushes in.

“Why won’t you just sign the papers?” she snips. Her chin is tilted up in defiance.

“What papers?” I lean back in my chair putting my hands behind my head, more than ready to watch her all fired up. It’s always a beautiful scene when she gets going. This is so much better than seeing her cause a scene sitting at her desk. I wonder how pissed she’d be if she knew I hacked into Colt’s security to watch the camera that was pointed right at her desk.

She looks to the bag over her shoulder then back to me. I watch as her eyes take me in. She may be able to hide her true feelings behind a stern face, but her eyes tell me everything.

“I forgot them,” she whispers in disbelief. I know she’s talking about the papers from the lawyer.

“Are you sure you forgot them? I don’t think you meant to bring them at all.” I try and keep my tone calm. She purses her lips, doing exactly what I want. Working herself up.

“I don’t know what you’re doing but this is done. I’m over you playing with my head.” Her shoulders drop. I’m out of my seat before she can say another word. Shit. The defeated look in her eyes slices me in fucking half. Have I done this all wrong? I never want her to look like that.

“Mackenzie.” I scoop her up into my arms. She doesn't fight me.

“Wife,” she mumbles against my neck.

“Wife,” I confirm. “Always my wife.”

“Where have you been?” Her nose brushes against my neck. I close my eyes, enjoying the feeling of having her back. She sucks in a deep breath of me.

“I’ve been waiting for you.”

Her body melts into mine. She goes so quiet, I think maybe she fell asleep. I don’t move an inch, letting her rest against me. I know the last four days have been as hard for her as they have been for me. She’s been wrestling all kinds of shit in her head.

“You didn't chase me,” she finally says.

“I’m not sure that’s true.” She leans back a little to look up at me. “I didn't have to chase you. I’ve had someone on you from the second you slipped out of our bed.”

“You were awake.” Her mouth turns down into an adorable pout that I’ve never seen before. There she goes, finally letting those walls crumble. Mackenzie would never let anyone see her pout. But I can have it. I am going to have all of her. Not just the part she allows the world to see. I want it all and she’s going to give it to me.

It may take her time but I have faith that she will. To the world she is strong and able to take on anything. She’s the sister that always made sure they had anything they needed. The one that would never tell you what her parents did to her that cut her deep. But to me she is a precious creature that needs my love and for me to allow her to be whatever she wants to be.

“You got the slip on me once. I wasn't going to let it happen again.” She drops her head back down, wrapping her arms around me.

“Why didn't you come for me?” Her voice sounds so sad.

“You’re killing me.” I hold her tight to me.

“I’ve missed you.” Her words are my undoing. Finally.
