Unable to take the distance any longer, I walk into our room and sit down next to her. “Not long. Why are you crying, fiore?”
She reaches for Lily and hugs her tight for a few seconds before she answers me.
“I’m just sad that a whole year has already passed. It seems like just yesterday that I had her, and now she’s one. Before we know it, she’ll be sixteen and driving and never want to spend any time with me,” she cries.
Trying to hold back my laughter—because I know now isnotthe time for that—I try to reassure her.
“Fiore, she’s only just turned onetoday. We have seventeen more years before we have to worry about her possibly leaving us. But something tells me that even when she is a teenager, she’ll still want to spend time with you,” I tell her as I drape my arm over her shoulder and pull her close to me.
Her tantalizing floral scent fills my nose, and my dick twitches in my pants.
Not now, I tell it.
She gives me a watery smile, hope filling her tear-filled eyes, when she says, “You think so?”
“Iknowso.”
And I do. Elle is an incredible mother, and I know our daughter will never want to leave her side, just like me.
While Elle is fussing over Lily’s outfit, I place the gift bag on the bed between us. Just as I thought, she notices it right away.
“What’s that?” she asks, ever the snoop.
“I know you ordered this outfit for Lily, but I thought maybe she could wear this instead,” I tell her as I try not sweat through my shirt, suddenly extremely nervous.
Wiping my clammy hands on my jeans, I reach inside my pocket and feel around for what I’m looking for.
She gives me a skeptical look as she reaches inside the bag and pulls out the folded-up onesie. I swear it seems like time has stopped as she unravels it and reads what it says.
She gasps when she reads out loud, “Will you marry my daddy?” and looks up to find me down on one knee in front of her.
“Ohmygod,” she whispers.
My hands shake as I reach for her free hand and hold it in my own.
“Elle, from the moment I met you, I knew you were the one. Your beauty caught my attention, but it was your soul that captured my heart. My world was filled with so much darkness before you, and now there’s only light. I never knew a love like this existed, and I don’t want to waste any more time without you as my wife. Will you marry me?” I ask her as I hold up the ring.
A bead of sweat runs down my temple as I nervously await her response.
Silent tears keep falling down her face, and she nods her head. “Yes, of course, I will.”
Unable to take it any longer, I sit up on my knees and crash my lips to hers in a hard kiss, trying to be careful, as Lily is still in her arms. Pulling back, I slide the ring on her finger and relief washes over me that it’s a perfect fit. She holds her hand out in front of her as she stares at it. My nerves are once again on overdrive as I wait for her thoughts.
I went for something less traditional, and now I’m worried she doesn’t like it. It’s a two-and-a-half-carat pear-shaped black diamond with three smaller white diamonds on either side to represent the three of us.
“If you don’t like it, I can always take it back and have you pick something else out. I just thought this one suited you, and I asked the jeweler to add the three diamonds on the sides to signify you, Lily, and me. But we can return it and design something—”
She cuts me off by placing her hand over my mouth. “It’s perfect, D. I love it even more now, knowing how much thought you put into this.”
A tear rolls down her cheek, and I reach up to wipe it away.
“All I seem to be doing today is crying,” she says through a mixture of tears and laughter.
“It’s okay, baby, as long as they’re happy tears.”
Nodding her head frantically, she says, “They are. I’m so happy. We’re getting married!”
Needing another taste of her, I capture her lips in a searing kiss. This one is slow and passionate, full of love. My cock twitches in my pants, and I have to end the kiss so I don’t mount my fiancée in front of our daughter.
