The kiss he gives me takes my breath away.

“This is a most pleasing turn of events,” I murmur when we finally come up for air, wishing my hands weren’t full of ski poles and a package.

“You’re the most pleasing event.”

Swoon. Valentine’s Day has taken a turn for the delicious.

He grins. “I’m falling more in love with you with every passing second.” He takes my poles. “Give me these. I’m not close enough to you. I need to touch you.”

“Here, I’ll just, um, take those for you both,” Violet says, beaming as she leans in between us and takes our poles. “Don’t mind me, just removing all obstacles to an epic moment on Mount Love.”

“Thank you,” Bran says to her.

“No problem. I’ll prop the poles on the bench.” Violet slinks away with a smile.

“We should share the property,” I tell him, shaking the box and using my other hand to grip the nylon of his jacket. “Think what we can accomplish together. A ski runanda rec park, combined!”

“I’m not even worried about it. I’ve got everything I want right here.” He wraps his arms around me.

“Shinglepuss is going to hate this,” I grin, snuggling up against Bran. “All his evil plans thwarted by love.”

“He’ll live. Now please tell me that you booked a room at this resort so I can take my ski bunny to bed.”

“203 is free,” Violet calls out from behind the bench. “I booked it for you just in case because Nancy told me to. But don’t tell her I told you that part because she didn’t want to get caught meddling.”

“That’s very helpful, thanks,” I tell her, wryly. “Now go ski. Maybe you’ll find a lumberjack.”

“There’s something else in the box for you,” Bran says as Violet zooms away toward the ski lift. “But it can wait until we’re in the room.”

“You’re full of surprises. I love it. And you.” It feels right to say that, easy and perfect.

“I love you, too.”

As if on cue, the gigantic heart arch at the top of Mount Love sparkles to life.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, Kay,” Bran murmurs. “Race you to the lobby?”

“Absolutely, but we’re coming out to ski later. I need to show my sexy new boyfriend off on the slopes,” I say, making him grin.

“Your sexy new boyfriend approves of this plan.”

My sexy new boyfriend is the best, a fact he proves by making me come against the wall in our room with half my clothes still on. His skill in unparalleled and his heart is a treasure I will guard like a medieval knight for the rest of my life.

Literally, maybe therestof my life…

I pull the diamond engagement ring from the box where it’s settled right on top of the title to the Shinglepuss property. “You’re serious,” I breathe, dropping wide eyes to where Bran is now down on one knee. “But we’d be crazy to get engaged this fast. We barely know each other. This is basically our fourth date.”

“I know you,” he says with an assurance that makes me believe it. “And we can have a long engagement. If you decide you hate me in a few months, we can break it off with no stress.” He glances at my hand. “I just…had this crazy idea that my ring would look perfect on your finger.”

I slide the gorgeous diamond on and agree, “It does. So perfect.” I bite my lip as I grin down at him. “And I could never hate you, but you’re right…it’s not hard to call off an engagement.”

“Totally,” he says. “Especially when you don’t care what other people think. Which we’ve already established that we don’t.”

“Really couldn’t care less,” I say, opening my arms as he rises from the ground and pulls me against him.

“So, is that yes?” he asks.

“It’s a hell yes,” I murmur as I kiss him. “With caramel corn on top. Want to go buy some from the hot chocolate shop and show off my fancy new jewelry?”
