“Uh… okay,” I replied with a laugh. “Go ahead.”
Julia leaned in close and whispered, in that same conspiratorial tone Leo sometimes had, “Have you taken a test yet?”
I straightened, my whole body tense as I tried to hold Julia’s steady gaze. I couldn’t and dropped my eyes to the grass.
“I knew it!” She clapped her hands in delight. “I knew all that talk about Mexican food was bullshit.”
“I know,” I groaned. “I know, and I’m sorry. I just… I haven’t really processed it. That’s all.”
“No test?” she asked again.
I shook my head. “I don’t need one, Jules. The last time I felt this way, I was pregnant with the twins.”
“You what?”
I spun around, and Luca was standing there, gaping at me, our babies in his arms. Our babies who were going to be big brother and sister to a newest addition in a few months.
“Scarlett…” he pressed when I still hadn’t answered him.
“I don’t know, Luca,” I finally said, feeling Julia’s eyes burning into me. “Gianni and Marcella can barely sit on their own.”
Julia came forward and lifted the twins from Luca’s arms, and without hesitation, he lunged forward and scooped me into his arms, spinning me on the spot.
“Another baby?” he asked, planting kisses all over my face until eventually I started laughing.
“Luca, I’m going to be sick if you don’t stop spinning me,” I squealed.
He slowed down and allowed me to touch solid ground again, his arms still wrapped around me. Out of breath, I soaked up the look of pure love in his eyes as he gazed at me.
“Another baby.” I smiled at him.
