She sighs as if she doesn’t believe me. It hurts, but I can’t blame her. It has been nonstop drama since she started at Coral Lakes, and I know it’s mainly because of me and our relationship. “I need to go and grab some art supplies, and then I will meet you at our spot?” She asks it as a question even when she knows the answer. Hopefully, after the holidays, she’ll be driving her own car and won’t have to meet me away from the school. Not that I mind bringing her anywhere, I just hate her having to walk. Especially now that she is carrying my child.

I nod. “Of course, angel. See you in around thirty minutes?”

She smiles, taking my breath away. Remi is beautiful, but when she smiles, she is exquisite. I frown, not wanting any other man to see that look on her face or have the same thoughts. Her smiles are for me and me alone. “Sure,” she says with a wink and strides away. My eyes track her movement. The bounce in her step and the sway in her perfect, heart-shaped ass. I groan. She will literally be the death of me.

Snapping out of my thoughts, I grab my cell off the desk. I need to tell my parents about Remi before they show up for the holidays. I can’t wait for them to meet her. I know they will love my angel just as much as I do. Scrolling to my mother’s name, I hit dial. It rings twice before she picks up.

“Hello, sweetheart,” she greets.

“Hey, mom, are you okay?”

“Yes, honey, your father and I are good. He’s at work right now, that man never stops. That’s why I can’t wait to spend the holidays with you. It will give your father a chance to relax,” she says as something clangs.

“About that—”

She cuts me off before I can finish. “Asher Grant, you better not be calling to cancel on your old mother and father.”

I chuckle. “No, mom. I just wanted to let you know you will be meeting my girlfriend.”

She’s quiet for a long beat. “Girlfriend? You better not have gotten back with that god-awful woman. Please tell me you are not back with Cali?”

“No, mom. Christ, no.” I lower my voice. “Her name’s Remi. You are going to love her.” And before I can stop myself, I blurt out the words I have been wanting to say to someone else since I found out. “She’s pregnant, mom. We’re having a baby. You’re going to be a grandma.”

She gasps. “A grandma? Oh my god, Asher. When did this happen? How long have you been with this girl?” She sounds concerned but not unhappy.

“We’ve been together for around five months now. And it just happened. I want this, mom. I’m happy.Shemakes me happy.”

A sob bursts out of her and I frown, wondering if it’s a bad thing, but her next words confirm that they are happy tears. “Oh wow. I don’t know what to say. If you’re happy then so am I. This woman must be very special, Asher.”

I smile. “She is. Very special, and everything to me.”

“I can’t believe I’m going to be a grandma.” She chuckles.

“Well, believe it, because you are.” I pause. “Listen, mom, I want to tell dad myself, so when he gets back can you tell him to call me?”

“Of course, son. I’ll let him know as soon as he is home.” Her voice is soft, happy, and I know she is envisioning all the ways she can spoil her grandchild.

“Anyway, I better go. I need to go and pick my girl up.” I push out of my chair, holding the phone between my shoulder and ear as I pick up my bag and keys.

“Okay, son. Take care. See you soon.” We end the call, and I turn around to head for the door when a dark shadow stops me.

Oh, for fuck’s sake. What does he want now? I don’t have to speculate for long. His jaw clenches and then he speaks.

“You knocked her up?” His voice is low with a hint of something I can’t quite decipher. Of course, he heard my phone call.

“That is none of your business. Stop creeping. That was a private phone call, asshole.” I move to push past him, only stopping when he speaks again.

“She isn’t good for you, Asher. I bet she did this on purpose to trap you,” he growls.

Grabbing him by the collar of his shirt so quickly he doesn’t have chance to react, I push him against the wall. “You know nothing about her, Brody. Stop with this shit and leave us both the hell alone. I swear to God, if you even look at her in a way I don’t like, I will come for you.”

I release him quickly and step away. His lips are parted, chest heaving as his eyes darken with lust. I should know by now that he probably says this stuff to bait me into touching him. It clearly turns him on. I shake my head, spin, and head for the door. The last words I hear before I exit are, “You’ll be sorry. I promise you that.”

I should probably take his threats seriously. But if he so much as touches a hair on my angel’s head, I will fucking kill him.

Later that evening, I cook dinner and then we relax on the couch with a movie. We were going to sit in the hot tub, but I did some reading up on it and what I found didn’t recommend any more than ten minutes in a spa, especially in the early stages of pregnancy. I won’t risk anything when it comes to my angel and baby so, although Remi rolled her eyes, she didn’t fight me on it.
