Page 39 of Brake's Intent

LAWSON

I watch the grin spread on Brake’s face, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen him like this as he punches Gilroy.

“Get him to the boathouse,” Chains orders.

“You got it, Prez,” Shock grunts.

Brake twists at the waist to look at me. “You joining in on the fun?” he asks.

“Jax,” Faye whispers, visibly shaking. I wrap an arm around her, hoping to soothe her, but right now, there’s only one person who can do that, and that’s Brake.

Brake’s eyes move over to her. He takes in her shaking and comes to stand directly in front of her. Reaching up, he cups her cheeks in his hands. “Don’t worry, Tink, I’ve got this.”

“But your shoulders.” Faye licks her lips nervously as she frowns.

“They’ll be good,” Brake utters and leans in to press his lips to hers. “I’ll take something after I’m done.” Dropping his hands from her face, he looks past me to his brothers and jerks his chin up. “This is my fight.”

“Brother, you know it ain’t just yours, but you can have your fun,” Chains grunts, nodding.

Brake also nods, spins on his heels, and starts making his way to the door.

“Lawson, you need to go with him. Make sure he doesn’t do anything to hurt himself,” Faye pleads.

I look down and meet her gaze. “You gonna be okay without me?”

Faye nods quickly. “I’ll stay with Finn and Rory until you guys get back.”

I glance over to Finn in question. “Y’all stayin’?”

“If that’s what Faye needs, then yes,” Finn answers.

“Right,” I mutter, leaning in to kiss Faye’s lips. “Be back soon.”

I follow after Brake and the others, pulling out my phone. I’d been on the phone with Reed when Finn and Rory came in with Gilroy, so I hung up on him. I quickly shoot him a text and tell him that I’m not to be bothered for the rest of the day. Something came up, and I’ve got to see to it.

Chains is right about one thing, this isn’t just Brake’s fight, but it isn’t just theirs, either. Faye’s my woman as well, and I’ll have my hand in making her safe. That bastard wanted to take her away from us. That’s something neither of us will allow.

I was surprised when he walked in to find he’s good-looking, and I’m sure he uses that quality to his advantage. But one thing he doesn’t have is our height. He’s got to be maybe five-seven, five-eight at most, whereas Brake and I both are over six foot.

I shove my phone back in my pocket as I reach the boathouse and step inside. Everyone gathers around while Shock and Steel hook Gilroy up, using heavy-duty chains that you would normally find on a boat for the anchor.

Brake looks over his shoulder and motions for me to join him. When I get to his side, he says, “I know what I have planned for this bastard, so if you want a chance at him, take it now.”

“I’ll let you have your fun since I took out one of the fuckers last night,” I inform him, and several of his brothers chuckle.

“Don’t let him near the bastard with those fists of his,” Breaker says, laughing from Brake’s other side.

“That was fuckin’ crazy as hell,” Chains mutters, grinning.

“Let’s not forget that their woman also killed a woman with her hands. Fuckin’ bashed a bitch’s head, slamming it repeatedly into the floor,” Tyres remarks, pride filling his voice.

“She might look like a fairy, but she’s pretty fuckin’ badass in my books,” Speed adds, chuckling.

I don’t want to think of the fact Faye had to do that. I’ve got no problem getting my hands bloodied, but if I can help it, I’ll make sure she never has to worry about anything like that again.

“You all need to release me, or I swear, I’ll make you wish you were all dead,” Gilroy snaps, his eyes locked on Brake and me.

“Gilroy, Gilroy, Gilroy,” Brake taunts and steps forward. Don’t you know that it’s not us that will be wishing for death, but rather you?”
