“Our plantation is on the far side of the island, where the plants collect moisture throughout the day. As a result, they are protected from an abundance of rain, except for the occasional hurricane, of course.” He laughs at his joke. “We have a climate-controlled drying barn. From there, we have a smoke room to add flavor to our specialty cigars. Next, they are hand rolled before they are inspected twice during quality control. Then they’re packed and shipped in humidor containers to maintain their purity.”

I give the cigar back to Lily, and she places it in the box as she smiles at Mr. Jones. “Are they marked with a batch number and date of harvest?”

He blinks for a moment, then barks a laugh. It wasn’t a question he was expecting. “Oh, yes, my dear. And you can have your choice of them both.”

Color me impressed. Lily knows her stuff. Of course she would—she grew up around the business. I note how she speaks, what she says, and the way Mr. Jones reacts. Lily missed her calling, in my opinion. She should’ve joined the business. The contract she pulls out of Mr. Jones is nothing short of genius. I couldn’t have done it better myself. With her help, we will be selling cigars that were previously sanctioned.

I scribble my signature over both copies of the contract, and we say our goodbyes and bid each other good luck. Then Lily and I return to the car. The driver opens the door for us, and she gets in first, then I slide in after her. Neither of us says anything, but she’s proud of herself. Hell, I’m proud of her. Proud and surprised. The negotiation between the vendor and Lily was so beautiful I could kiss her. So much so that when we get into the car, that’s all I want to do. I press the button to rise the partition again and then I pull Lily into my lap and do just that.

Chapter Thirteen

Lily

Jaxcatchesmeoffguard with his fervent kiss. I could tell he had been impressed by how I handled Mr. Jones and how I negotiated the contract for him and my dad. I completely expected to discuss it at length when we got into the car. However, I did not expect to be yanked into his lap and kissed as though his life depended on it.

I’m not going to complain. On the contrary, I rather like it here. It would be what I’d hoped for, if it weren’t for my dad poking his nose where it doesn’t belong.

I don’t break our kiss to ask questions. Instead, I kiss him back with as much passion as I have, despite any potholes the car may hit on the way back. His kiss stokes the fire inside me and has me panting, grinding my hips against him. Desire courses through my veins as I moan into his mouth.

Jax places his hand on my thigh and tugs on my dress. I shift my weight to raise the hem, and he groans, slides his hand against my naked thigh, then squeezes. “Lily,” he murmurs against my lips.

“Touch me or let me go,” I dare him.

Without hesitation, he presses his thumb against my clit and rubs. The fire continues to grow as I pull him in for another kiss. He works his thumb back and forth, and the damp spot on my panties grows.

“More,” I plead.

He moves the thin fabric between us to the side, runs a finger along my slit, and then dips a finger into me. A long gasp falls from my lips, and I spread my legs a little more, inviting him in.

Jax nips on my bottom lip and lazily pumps his finger inside me, driving me closer to climax. He traces my lips with his tongue and then grabs the base of my neck, pulling me into a deep kiss. Another low moan escapes, but this time, it comes from him.

“More?”

I open my eyes to see his wicked ones staring at me. After I nod, I lean forward to whisper something in his ear.

“Oh?” He chuckles. “We’ll have to see about that.” He adds a second finger inside my pussy, pushing me closer to the edge but keeping me from falling over it. I grind my hips into him, feeling his palm graze my clit. The added sensation kicks my body into overdrive, but the feeling doesn’t last long because we’re interrupted by the driver.

“We’re here.”

Jax smirks at me before removing his fingers from my pussy. “To be continued . . .”

I quickly climb off his lap, fluff my hair, and then fix the rest of my dress. I take a deep breath to steady myself. I’m not usually the person who does risqué acts in public, let alone in a car with a stranger in the front seat. Thankfully, the partition is still up, but I can’t deny the thrill of it that has my heart pumping out of my chest.

We get out of the car, and Jax tips the driver. Then we make our way to the elevator, but we’re not going to his room. Mother and Dad can find us there. However, they don’t know what room I checked into, so we’ll be safe from further interruptions. Safe from parental figures attempting to ruin my life.

The trip in the elevator is short-lived but is a repeat of yesterday, which seems ominous, considering how the day ended. Thankfully, there’s no one in the hall when we get to my floor, because Jax cannot keep his hands off me.

Once inside the room, I put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door handle, shut it, and slide the lock into place. It’s my way of telling Jax he’s not going anywhere this time. He looks amused, but his eyes hold a different emotion. Desire darkens them, making him look more primal. This side of Jax excites me.

I slide my arms around his waist, which I so admired yesterday at the pool. He leans down to kiss me, but I find what I want and back up. I snag his cell from his pocket and turn it off. Then I remove mine from my purse and do the same, setting them both on the dresser. I turn to look at Jax when I hear a gravely chuckle from him.

He starts to protest, but I shake a finger at him in playful chastisement. “No distractions this time.” My fingers return to his waist, then trail up his stomach to the top of his shirt. I unbutton his shirt, taking my time. Admiring the view up close and personal.

His hands catch mine to stop me. Surprised and a little worried he’s going to get cold feet about this thing between us, I look up at him. “What?”

Conflict lines his face.Shit. He’s had too much time to think about us, and now he’s debating calling a halt to this. Nope. We’re not doing that. The fire between us is burning, and I won’t be the only one going down in flames.

I make the quick decision to not play fair. I shrug as I take my hands back, but only so I can start working to undo the buttons on my sundress. It’s needless, of course, because I can easily pull it over my head. There’s a reason for my madness.
