He had been the same.
On the rare few occasions he got up later than usual, healwaysinsisted on breaking his fast with traditional human foods.
Lizzy even clutched her mug of coffee in both hands the same way he did, breathing in the scent of the black beans before taking a deep sip and letting it wash down her throat.
Her eyes were closed as she savored every moment.
I couldn’t bear the bitter smell with my superior senses.
I took a deep breath and let it out as I approached her. “Did you sleep well?” I asked.
“Very,” she said, eyes still a little groggy.
“If you wish to see the estate another day, we can—”
Lizzy shook her head and took another deep gulp of coffee. “No. I would like to see it today. Assuming the weather is good?”
Checking the weather had been the first thing I had done that morning.
Being alone with Lizzy was going to be the highlight of my day and I didn’t want anything to spoil it.
“Yes, fine all day,” I said. “Take your time and let me know when you’re ready to go.”
Lizzy finished her eggs, downed the last of her coffee, and shoved the plate away.
A servant was there to pick it up and take it away immediately.
She smiled up at me. “My every whim taken care of, huh? I could get used to this!”
“It could be yours,” I said simply. “All you need to do is sign the contract.”
Lizzy pursed her lips but didn’t reply to my implied question.
She got to her feet. “I’ll get ready and then you can show me my father’s estate. Although I doubt we’ll see the whole thing today!”
No, we wouldn’t.
But with any luck, I would show her the best parts of it, and then, if the mood was right, I would Claim her.

LIZZY
It tookme twenty minutes to get used to riding the G'kood, and when I did, I realized I hardly had to do anything at all.
It was a strange-looking creature with fuzzy hair like one of the trolls I used to stick on the top of my pencil.
But the G'kood’s hair wasn’t wild but combed and clean.
I liked running my fingers through it.
The creature was not like a horse back on Earth and instead stood up on its hind legs and marched forward.
It had shorter forearms which it sometimes used to walk.
My G'kood followed Uhti’s G'kood without any input from me.
Uhti’s G'kood was much more energetic and boisterous.
