Her elbows pushed something on the counter, making a noise. “W-what cause?”

I smiled as her body sagged against mine. “It’s called the principle of causality—cause and effect. I can show you exactly what I mean.” I settled my lips on the crook of her neck, loving her soft skin. “This is the cause.” I sucked on it, and she moaned, fisting her hands in my shirt. “Your reaction is the effect. But we’re only scraping the surface.”

She moaned again, tilting her head to the side. “Is this your prescription for relaxation after a long flight, doctor?”

“Indeed. Now be a good girl and do as I say.” I lifted her, and she wrapped her legs around my waist with her arms slung around my neck. Cupping her ass, I made my way into her bedroom. “I’m having you inyourbed tonight.”

Amusement glittered in her mischievous eyes. “I’ve got some aches and pains I need help with.”

My mouth jerked into a grin. “I’ll lick all your aches and pains away.”

She bit her bottom lip. “Sounds like a lovely remedy, Dr. Viktorsson.”

Desire spiked in me as I kicked her bedroom door open, rushed to her bed, and fell onto her. “My hypothesis? To remedy Michelle’s aches and pains requires a lot of licking, sucking, and orgasmic eruption.”

Her eyes sparked with heat. “That is the most provocative educated guess I’ve ever heard. Let’s test it out.” She yanked at my clothes.

In seconds, we were naked in bed, licking, sucking, and performing all kinds of sexual acts that offered us mighty orgasms. Afterwards we sprawled out on the bed, letting the sexual energy drift around the room.

Michelle lay on top of me with her head on my heart, and I didn’t think there could ever be anything more perfect than that moment.

I ran my fingers down her spine. “How was your day today?”

She shifted her head and looked at me. “Wanna see what I made for you?”

“Absolutely.”

Michelle slipped into her robe, and I threw on my boxers, walking out to the kitchen.

“I need to get my luggage from my car for a change of clothes,” I said, taking a seat at the table.

“You can do that later.” She brought over her tablet. “You can look at all the T-shirts available to be auctioned off in a couple of weeks. I’ll reheat your dinner.”

I didn’t know what to expect, but when I saw the unique T-shirts, pride and love filled me. She knew me well. “I love Smart A.S.S, Nerd Lava, Book Lava, Michelle’s Viking, and Experience the Adventure.” No one had ever made a shirt for me, never mind five. “Thank you.”

She brought over the warm chicken pot pie. “You don’t have to wear—”

“Of course I do. People need to know I’ve got a sassy girlfriend.” I yanked her onto my lap. “You should make all my T-shirts.”

“It was a fun activity with the girls.” She scooped up some chicken pot pie with the spoon, blew on it, and fed me.

I opened my mouth, chewed, and swallowed, loving the intimate gesture more than I thought. I’d never been fed by any woman I’d dated. They never got this close to me.

She gave me the spoon, hopped off my lap, and brought a glass of water for her and me, sitting next to me. “So what are some updates? I’m dying to know.”

I finished the delicious pot pie and looked at her big brown eyes. “You can’t wait until tomorrow?”

“No.”

I told her about Dominic Bryson and his corrupt police department, but I didn’t share any other details about his father’s death. I didn’t want her to be involved in my past. Though Slash was no longer alive, his warning still rang in my ears.

Michelle told me she’d encountered Dominic at the Krazee Tavern, and I didn’t like knowing he’d been that close to her. It wasn’t unusual for Dominic to dine at a popular restaurant in the city.

If I wanted to keep my loved ones safe, my friends and I needed to keep our mouths shut regarding the incident we’d witnessed all those years ago when I was fifteen.

It seemed the discovery of Edward Bryson’s body was the beginning of something. Though my friends and I had nothing to do with his murder, what we saw tied us to those involved in the crime. We were kids who’d been in the wrong place at the wrong time, and now the past was catching up to us.

Regardless, I wouldn’t let anything or anyone get near Michelle—the woman who held my heart.
