“Good, it’s not mandatory.” Felix wiped his forehead.
“It seems safer than fighting. Look, no physical violence.” Dottie pointed to the rules.
I looked at Felix. Fighting was out of the question now, anyway. It was odd that the invitation came right after the clubs closed. Or was it a sign to do this? Twenty percent of what I was sold for had the potential to be a lot of money for my family. I only had to deal with the rich person who bought me for five years. I could do that.
“This is another one of these bad decisions you are gonna do, isn’t it?” Dottie asked.
“You did just say it's safer than fighting.” I turned to Felix. “I need a favor.”
“Anything,” Sandy replied.
“You two must move in here and care for my mom and Dottie.”
“You can’t really do this. This is your worst decision so far.” Felix crossed his arms.
“It’s only five years. I grabbed a pen and signed the rules and regulations. “It can’t be that bad.”
CHAPTER6
Ava (Day 1)
Sometimes I made terrible decisions.Even when I knew it was a stupid idea, I would do it like when I fought Big Booty Judy and when I entered the marriage auction.
As I sat in the back of the room of the auction house, I realized it was my worst idea to date. Honestly, I did it for two reasons. I told my family it was so they would get my cut, but that wasn’t the only reason. There was another reason—a big one.
Brad. He would find me and try to control me again. He knew my secret and would use it against me as he had in the past. At least if I were in a marriage, I would be safe for five years.
“Ladies and Gentlemen.” A skinny man with a bowtie stepped before the entrants.
Metal chairs were spewed across the room. People sat in groups and chatted. One glance, and you could tell who was rich and who was homeless. Aside from me. One glance at me, and you couldn’t tell. I was homeless, yet I wore makeup and clothes like I had money to spare.
“We are pleased to have one hundred and twenty-three entrants. Everyone was given a card with a number on it. Pin it to your shirt. If no one bids on you, take a seat, and we will recall you at the end. Sometimes purchasers don’t get their first pick, so they will go with someone else. How exciting!” He clapped his hands together.
A wiry woman raised her hand. She wore ripped jeans and a hoodie so big it stopped at her knees. Clearly homeless. The man with the bowtie pointed at her to speak.
“Can more than one elite purchase us?” She was smiling from ear to ear.
“Oh no. That wouldn’t be fair for the elites to share one of you.” He shook his head and practically spat at the ground.
I opened my mouth to argue. They could purchase two of us to have orgies with, yet it couldn’t work the other way around. Hypocrites.
