“I wouldn’t speak to her like that.” Derek wiped the knife covered in blood on his pant leg. “That’ll get you killed faster.”
“You guys are really gonna kill me over a homeless? That isn’t how Elite’s handle disputes,” Carlos scoffed. The way he said homeless boiled my blood. He had no right. “If you want the bots, take them. They are in my office.”
“We will deal with the backlash.” Jason pressed the knife deeper against his throat. Blood trickled down. “The bots are the least of our concern.”
I looked at Kira. Her eyes were big and pleading. She wanted to be the one to kill him. She needed to be. After this I would have to ask her how her mother was killed by this man. Now wasn’t the time.
How could I deny her?
Derek had sensed the same thing he was searching through the dead man’s pockets. He pulled out the keys and tossed them to me.
I turned to the security guards and staff. “Carlos has a sister Maria. He banished her years ago to Peru. In the morning I will send for her. She will be your new boss. I trust no one has an issue with this.”
While Carlos was busy trying to buy out properties we wanted, I was busy getting information on his family. Most of them were dead. One mysterious accident after another. All except his sister.
I had talked to her on the phone once. She said as long as he lived, she wouldn’t step foot in New Boston. Well that problem was about to be solved. I just hoped she was a better person than Carlos.
The security guards all put up their hands and stepped away.
“You guys are all dead!” Carlos screamed. “You can’t get away with this.”
He struggled against the knife. A bot spit acid at him. He screamed. Blood trickled from his neck.
Uncuffing Kira, I handed her a knife. She had to be quick before the bots killed him. Jason had them trained. It was really impressive. I saw some of his trial runs. Those things were vicious.
Kira grabbed the knife and plunged it into Carlos’ stomach. No hesitation. Then she turned the knife and shoved it deeper. “That’s for my Mom.”
Blood poured from his mouth. He sputtered as if trying to speak. Jason let go of him and whistled to his bots. They scurried away and went back into their case in his pocket.
A servant with a mop came over and started mopping up the blood before Carlos even hit the ground. “His office is at the top of the stairs. Please destroy those bots,” she said to Jason.
“I will.” He smiled at her. She must have known what they were capable of.
Kira turned to me. Tears filled her eyes. “Thank you.”
Derek flung his arm around her. “Come on, Killer. Let’s go home.”
