“Sweetie, did it not fit?” He pursed his lips.
“It’s not that...it’s,” I started to explain.
“So sorry I’m late.” The door flew open and hit the wall. Vickie stood in the entrance catching her breath.
“Vickie!” I ran over and threw my arms around her. “I’m so happy you are here. I have to tell The Trips if you aren’t invited as a guest to this party then I’m not going.”
“Why do you think I’m here?” she asked. “They wanted me to go. They are even letting Miguel go. You and I are getting ready together.”
My heart sped fast. They did this for me. They knew I would want her there. Fuck, they really were perfect. “Tell me all about Miguel.”
“He’s wonderful. I met him in the backyard. He does the cool bushes. He used to paint on the streets until Pat found him. He brought him here and got him a job. The Trips said if he is as good as he says, they are gonna have him paint murals for them. How cool.” Vickie scanned the dresses looking for one that might fit her tiny frame.
“You two have plenty of time to talk of love.” Pat clapped his hands. “Let’s go.”
I went back into the bathroom and put the red dress on. Vickie grabbed a dress in a much smaller size and put it on. It was silver and truly made her look like a fairy. It was perfect.
As for the red dress, I hated it. The thing had two large slits up the front that went past my hips. One wrong move and my vagina would fall out. Nope. The Trips would never approve, not that I cared. Okay, maybe I did. I wanted them to be stunned, not pissed.
Pat handed me three more dresses that were equally as revealing in their own way.
“Is there something here that doesn’t scream I can afford fabric but chose not to?” I asked him after the fourth dress was so low cut it showed my belly button. I’m not knocking someone else’s fashion choices, but on me I didn’t like it and I knew my men would hate them.
“Last one before we have to consider some alterations.” He handed me the black silky dress.
It slid over my skin as if it belonged there. It had thin straps, and fell down to the floor in pools around my ankles. There were no slits or boob malfunctions. It was perfect. I walked out of the bathroom to show them.
Everyone gasped. I blushed. Vickie nodded relentlessly. She still hadn’t taken off the silver one. Neither one of us had ever worn something so expensive. So perfect.
Pat clapped his hand and then pulled out a pair of shoes from one of the suitcases. “These will be perfect.”
They were black strappy things with heels the size of nails. Ha. he couldn’t possibly think I was gonna wear those. I wouldn’t be able to walk three feet in those, yet alone wear them during an entire party. “I can’t wear those.”
“Sweetie, they would be perfect.” He stared at me. “Okay fine. I have a pair of boring flats. Luckily with the dress and mask no one will be looking at your feet.”
“Mask?” Vickie and I asked simultaneously.
“Didn’t they tell you? It’s a masquerade ball. It’s their grandfather’s favorite kind of party.” Pat pulled out multiple masks.
They were all colorful with feathers and glitter. All of them were beautiful. Pat handed Vickie a silver one with pink feathers. It made her look even more the fairy than she already was.
He sorted through all the masks and set them aside. I reached my hand out to touch one and he swatted it away. Finally at the bottom of the suitcase he pulled one out and handed it to me. It was all black without feathers or glitter. It was simple yet made a huge statement. It was in the shape of a wolf.
“The boys have requested you wear this one.” Pat tied the ribbon behind me so I could try it on.
“It’s beautiful,” I smiled.
“A ball,” Vickie whispered. “Can you believe we are going to a ball?”

IHAD THOUGHT GETTINGready would be quick and easy. Boy was I wrong. Hair alone took hours. The ladies fussed over it until they said it was perfect. It was in a side braid with pieces cascading down framing my face. As if that wasn’t enough, they added jewels into the braid. Then make-up took even longer. I didn’t understand it, but Vickie seemed to be really enjoying all of it.
A few minutes before the party started and we were finally ready to go. Miguel showed up at my door to pick up Vickie and escort her into the party. He was in a tux with a silver bowtie to match Vickie. They looked adorable and the smile on her face was genuine.
As soon as they walked away The Trips showed up at my door. All three of them had on tuxes and matching shiny shoes. I laughed, they were identical. I mean there was no way I could tell them apart. At all. To top it off they all had on black wolf masks that matched mine. We were a pack and it was perfect.
“Shit Babe, I could just eat you up.” Derek wrapped me up in a hug and kissed me. “Which I will do later.”
