With my phone, I opened the app to our security cameras in the building and started clicking through them for anything that looked out of place. At least it was the time of night when there were the fewest people in the building. But with Delano still here, I was going to tan her ass if she’d gone exploring.
There. There was a light on in the storage room that shouldn’t be there. “Got it.” I jogged to my room and grabbed a shirt from a drawer, even as disappointment echoed in my chest. After everything, we’d begun to think we were wrong, and Selena was somehow simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, somehow.
This proved differently.
“Where is she?”
“The storage room by the kitchen.”
Nick sighed. “Fuck.”
We all headed to the elevator. “Don’t let her know we’re there. Maybe we can find something out,” I said.
“I hoped it wouldn’t come to this,” Derek said. “I really—fuck.”
I shook my head because I knew exactly what he was feeling. Strange, considering we’d been expecting to be stabbed in the back, but hoping it wouldn’t happen.
The elevator opened on the kitchen floor, and we all moved silently through the room toward storage. No sounds let us know what she was doing, and for a brief shining moment, I hoped that someone on the staff had simply left the light on, and she wasn’t inside.
But there she was, wearing my shirt.
Back to us, in the corner where our shipment of Omega hormones was being stored. That was what she was after? Not exactly the worst thing we were involved in at the moment. I heard her muttering under her breath, and it sounded like she was repeating something over and over.
I slipped my phone into my pocket, and together we watched as she opened a box and checked it thoroughly. Selena sighed, and even the soft sigh was sexy, because I knew how it sounded when I pushed my cock into her and she wasn’t completely ready.
She turned and froze, seeing the three of us waiting. “Hello, Selena.”
Her tan skin went pale, and I hated it. She was afraid of us. The citrus in her scent went rancid with terror. “Hi.”
“What are you doing down here, little one?”
“Nothing.” The word was rote and without emotion. Clearly a lie.
Derek scrubbed a hand over his face. “We’ve asked you before who sent you, and you told us no one did.”
“I was just exploring. I didn’t really know my way around—”
Nick stepped forward quickly, invading her space. “You’re already in enough trouble, sweetheart. Let’s not add blatant lies to it.”
She didn’t contradict him, instead casting her eyes to the floor.
“I guess it’s time to get the truth out of her,” I said to Derek. “Have any ideas?”
His mouth was a firm line. He didn’t want to do this any more than I did, but it had to be done. “Black room?”
Nick turned. “That could be interesting.”
Grabbing Selena’s wrist, he pulled her toward us. She dug her feet in and resisted. “I’m sorry,” she said. “I was just exploring. Please.”
I took her from Nick and pressed her against the wall so fast her breath left her. “We’ve given you so much time, little one, to tell us the truth. We don’t want to interrogate you, but you’ve given us no choice, and wewillget it out of you one way or another.”
“Please,” she whispered, and I closed my eyes, desperately trying to block out the aching of my own heart. Especially after the experience we just shared. I felt more connected to her than ever, and this was like shoving a knife into myself.
“You know very well that we can inflict pain without permanent damage, princess. We’re going to go to the Black Room, and you won’t be leaving that room until you tell us the truth. So think carefully about how much your boss’s secret is worth to you. We’ll still be lenient if you tell us now.”
Her tiny whine cracked my soul, and I shoved myself away from her. I couldn’t be near her and hear those sounds and do what I needed to do. Of the three of us, the bulk of this punishment and interrogation would fall on me. I was the sadist. I was the one who knew how to bring someone to their knees with pain and still keep them whole.
In the past I’d done it to some truly evil people. Selena wasn’t someone I wanted to apply those talents to. Even earlier tonight, when I whipped her, I hadn’t tried to cause her pain. It was a show for Delano. But we would do this. And she would finally tell us the truth.
