U.O.S.

I stared at the words on the screen.

What?

What crimes were they talking about?

The Betas that died? Why would they think I had anything to do with that? My heart jumped into my throat. The threat against Anna was the thing that gripped me harder than a boa constrictor.

My little sister needed the treatments she was getting. Continually. If she didn’t, she would die within a week. Let alone lookinggloballyfor a place to take care of her. It wouldn’t matter. The rare auto-immune disorder she had required constant battling. Even a day without the medication and care she had at the hospital would leave her body wrecked and make it that much harder to keep her alive.

I just…

This had to be a dream, right?

The person who broke into my house and drugged me, all of this. It had to be a heat dream. Ithadto be.

Moving, I tested the boards under me. The heavy metal cage was bolted to the floor. Sure enough, one of the planks was loose. I lifted it and slid the phone inside. Dread slid down my spine.

Please be a dream.

Pleasebe a dream.

But if it wasn’t, how was I supposed to find out who was making the hormones? Why was I at a sex club and in a cage?

Oh god, was I about to be sold? I had so many questions that didn’t have answers. How would they explain my absence for a month? Who the hell did I talk to about this? Why thefuckdid they think I was a murderer?

If they put me here… was the cage open?

I pushed on the door, and sure enough, it swung open. I carefully crawled out and closed the door to the cage behind me. They said I needed access to the phone, so I made very sure not to lock it. Who knew if I was going to get put back in the cage as soon as I stepped out from behind this curtain?

Slowly, I peeked out around it and found the entire room empty. It was full of cages just like this one, but they were empty too. The room was a riot of different scents.

Now out from behind the curtain, I heard the low murmur of a crowd. This was a club, right? But the message had said thecriminalportion of the club. What the hell would I be walking into?

I wanted to turn around and hide, but on the off-chance I was either dreaming or hallucinating, seeing what was out there would tell me either way. And if it was real, there was no way to get out of this without doing what they wanted.

Anna came first.

It was the rule I lived my life by. So I would try to find what they wanted, even if it made no sense and it had nothing to do with me.

I tiptoed in the direction I heard all the people moving and found a dark hallway leading to brightness. This was definitely where I needed to be, then.

I blinked, adjusting to the contrasting brightness as I stepped up to the door. This was… a theatre? To my right, a brightly lit stage stood empty. Or mostly empty. A chain hung ominously in the middle of it, not attached to anything.

In the audience, people were mingling. Men in suits and women—Omegas—dressed in lingerie like mine, or skimpier. They held trays of glasses and food and circulated among all the men. In one corner, an Omega was on her knees and a man’s fingers were in her mouth.

I saw the three men from the backstage area speaking with each other and a couple of others.

What the fuck did I do here? Were there more trays I missed? What was it the man had said? Yes, Master, and thank you, Master.

In spite of myself, I shuddered. Kyle was more on the nose than I would ever tell him about my fantasies. But that’s what they were. Fantasies to get me off. Not something I suddenly wanted to live full time.

“Well, well. Aren’t you a pretty thing.”
