“What—”

“We will be helping you through your heat,” Sebastian said, tone allowing no room for argument. “We cannot train you while your mind and body are in heat, nor can we take you into the club while perfuming like you are. So we will help you. This apartment is equipped with a nest, and while it lasts, you are excused from calling us master.”

We walked through the room I’d been left in last night and down a different hallway. “You likely won’t remember anyway, and though we are strict masters, we would rather not punish you for things your instincts will not allow.”

Derek slipped in front of us and opened a door. The room was small and dim, with black cushions lining the floor and walls. It wasn’t what I would choose for a nest, but my mind instantly eased, recognizing the small, the soft, and the dark.

“We still have business to take care of, but we will do our best to take care of it while you are sleeping.”

My Omega didn’t like that. My instincts wanted all my Alphas close so they could be there to knot and comfort. But they weren’tmyAlphas, were they?

“Selena?” Sebastian asked.

I looked up at him. “Yes?”

He smirked briefly. I missed something. “A heat is one of the few things we do not interfere with. If you don’t want us to help you, we can leave you in the other room.”

Blinking, I looked at him and then at the others. “You’re letting me choose?”

“Yes,” Nick said.

My mind told me I should tell them to fuck off and leave me alone. It would probably be the smarter thing to do. But they were myscent matches. Even if this was the only time I ever got to be with them in this way, and even if it would be more painful later, when they chained me up again, I couldn’t say no.

I wanted the kind of passion everyone talked about with scent matched heats. Just once. So I chose to be selfish and foolish.

“I choose you.”

CHAPTER EIGHT

____________

DEREK

As soon as the door closed behind us, I looked at my pack mates. “Are you fucking kidding me? Seriously?”

Walking into the room was like walking into heaven. Heaven that was made of roses and oranges and the sweetest, most delicious perfume I’d ever experienced in my life. Ten times the little taste I got in the theatre. The whole room wassoakedwith it.

And just like everything else about this situation, it was absolutely fucked. We didn’t have time to take four days away from our duties and responsibilities to fuck an Omega through her heat, no matter how much I wanted to.

Yet, I wasn’t going to leave her in that cage and in pain. No part of me was capable of that.

“Do we train her through the heat?” Nick asked. “She’ll certainly be more receptive to things.”

“If we’re helping her through it, there’s no fucking way I’m going to let an Omega—OurOmega—go through a heat while asking to come. It’s more than cruel. And given that in any other situation we’d be head over heels and courting her by now, I’m not going to fuck her as a slave during her heat. Ican’t. If that makes me weak, I don’t care.”

Seb put his hand on my shoulder. “No, it doesn’t. And I agree with you. Her heat will go faster if she’s helped through it. We can keep up appearances when she’s sleeping, or take breaks if needed. It isn’t a normal situation, and we have to deal with it. But I’d like to help her through it, and not as a slave. I don’t even care how we look to her. I’d rather her choose whether she wants us to help.”

“She will,” Nick said. “We’re scent bonded. I’m barely hanging on as it is from going back in there and fucking her into the floor. I’m sorry, Derek, I didn’t—”

I waved a hand. “I know.” He hadn’t meant to minimize anything or imply we should use her. We were all trying to make the best of a bad situation. A fucking awful situation.

“We just do the best we can,” Sebastian said. “The place has a nest.”

A startled laugh burst out of me. I forgot about it. The apartment we now occupied belonged to the government. Before it was our base of operations forCatena, it was a place used by visiting dignitaries, and sometimes those dignitaries required a nest. “For once we have a little luck.”

“Let’s show her the nest,” Nick said. “Make it clear that we want to help, and not as masters to a slave, and let her choose. Everything else aside, we can do that.”

I agreed. “Okay.”
