“Alex, you are a crazy mess…” Everly chuckled.

“I just needed to hear your voice.”

“Is everything okay?”

“I turned in my resignation and things got a little dicey – but I can tell you about it later.”

“Secrets?”

“Oh yeah…”

“Should I be worried?”

“No… I really don’t think so,” Alex mused. “In fact, if it wasn’t for you, our home, and Caleb? I would be a really happy airman right now.”

“Do you want to stay in? It’s okay if you do…”

“No, my love. I want to come home and sleep with my wife every single night…”

“Oh gosh, that sounds perfectly wonderful.”

“I thought so too,” he chuckled. “Maybe we can still go on dates and do all the things that fools falling in love do… I mean, who says that we have to stop any of that now that we are married? I can’t think of a better date in the entire world than spending time with my wife – before getting to go home and make love to her for hours at a time. I love the way you arch your back when…”

“Ohhh I think I’m gonna hurl,” Paradox said bluntly, making an about-face in the doorway and walking off, causing Alex to laugh nervously.

“Paradox just overheard me,” Alex volunteered. “And apparently it disagrees with his tender tummy.”

Everly chuckled easily.

“I love you so much, Everly…” he whispered. “I cannot wait to see you soon.”

“I love you too – and I’ll be waiting.”

“As soon as I have my release date, I will let you know.”

“Sounds like a well-conducted plan, Maestro…” she teased tenderly.

“I thrive in chaos and we both know it.”

“The only thing chaotic in you, my sweet husband, is the fact that you can’t do everything all at once for everyone you love – and that makes you an absolute joy in my book.”

“Everly…”

“Just come home when you can, Alex,” she said softly. “I’d rather show you that I love you than whisper the words over and over again – because they pale in comparison to what I feel when I hear your voice.”

“It’s the same for me, wife,” he said hoarsely. “You are my forever.”

“And you are mine.”

EPILOGUE

Two months later…

“I cannot believethat Killian and Alex are both coming home for Thanksgiving,” Everly smiled easily, feeling so happy and blessed. She and Mallory were setting the table that had been extended as much as possible with a discolored leaf – covered by a table cloth she had bought at Wal-Mart.

Nana was the one that volunteered to pick up the two pilots before coming over… which was a massive help. There was so much going on, and trying to coordinate everything was feeling a little overwhelming.

The turkey was in the oven and smelled so fragrant. She had made her mother’s sausage dressing – and her parents were supposed to arrive at any minute.
