“Yes?”

“Happy one-month anniversary of our eskimo kiss,” he said tenderly, closing his eyes as he heard her soft sigh. “I miss you terribly.”

“Oh goodness,” she choked out, her voice thick with emotion. “I miss you too – and it was a month ago, wasn’t it?”

“Yeah. It really meant a lot to me, and I think about you all the time.”

“I miss you, too.”

“Do you think,” Alex hesitated, feeling suddenly nervous. “Do you think that maybe I could take you on a real date when I come back in two months? Can we skip getting coffee – and go out as a couple?”

“I would love that, Alex.”

“I think about us holding hands…”

“And walking along the creek together,” she interjected softly, and he nearly sighed with happiness as he realized that she shared those same thoughts and feelings.

“The way the wind blew your hair and your smile…”

“It really meant a lot to see you smiling and laughing with Caleb…”

“Maybe we could go on a few dates together?”

“One just us,” Everly volunteered softly. “And maybe one with Caleb so you can spend time with him too?”

Alex had to swallow hard to keep from getting emotional as he realized that she really was the perfect woman for him – and said as much.

“You are incredible.”

“Does that mean the eskimo kisses might be a little different when you come back?” she teased softly – and he melted.

“A lot different,” he replied huskily.

“That’s how you turn a girl’s head…”

“There’s only one girl I want noticing me…”

“You are a flirt,” she laughed softly.

“Only with you, my dear,” Alex countered, feeling himself smile with so much emotion, and hearing the countdown of his calling card already. “I need to enter another calling card, hang on.”

“Or you could try calling again next week so we can spread out our time?”

“It’s whatever you want, Everly,” he replied easily.

“Alex…”

“You know, you were right,” he began suddenly. “I wasn’t ready years ago when I kissed you, nor did I deserve you – but I am more than ready now.”

“I think I am too.”

“I can’t wait to see you soon.”

“Same here.”

“Call next week and let’s break up the length of time.”

“Same time next Saturday?”
