She laughed. “I think he’s left town to go to another arena,” she said.
“You could check that arena out, you know? Change the shade of red?”
She laughed and found this whole conversation hilarious. “I’ll take that under advisement.”
“Garrett, were you looking for me?” She saw Kara standing in the hallway. “I thought we were meeting this afternoon.”
“Oh yeah,” Garrett said. “Silly me, I must have confused the times. I’ll see you then. Bye, ladies.”
She watched as Garrett left, but Kara came in. “What was he talking to you about in terms of bulls, if you don’t mind me asking?”
Kara always kept to herself but was sweet as pie. “Your father-in-law is trying to feel me out about Jonah.”
“Jonah Davenport? Raina’s brother?” Kara asked. “Oh my God, are they trying to match you two up?”
“I didn’t think so a week ago, but the more I thought of it and then just now, I’m thinking that is the plan.”
She’d noticed that Raina’s mom spent a lot of time talking to Diane and Carolyn Fierce at the wedding. Then both Garrett and then Grant came up to her at the wedding and said some cryptic things too.
“They never learn. What are your thoughts on it?” Kara asked. “I’d had no idea it was happening with me, but I can’t complain now.”
“I wouldn’t be complaining if I were you either.”
Kara was happily married to Drake Fierce and they had beautiful twins, Owen and Olivia, who would be one in a week. Noah, Drake’s twin, his set of twins would be a year old too, Zoe and Drew, born about the same time.
“I suppose it keeps them busy and not asking when I’ll give them another grandchild. Not sure Drake and I want any more. I know they are used to big families, but I’m the one that has to carry them and the thought of another set of twins like Carolyn had doesn’t sit well with me. Paige feels the same way.”
Paige was Noah’s wife.
“I don’t blame you. I want to say the odds are against it, but in the Fierce family, it seems anything can happen.”
“That’s right,” Kara said. “Remember that. Those four are pretty sneaky. If they think you’d be a good fit with Jonah, better be prepared or put your foot down. One or the other.”
“I’ve given up hope of finding someone on my own,” she said. “Maybe I should let them do their thing and work with them on it.”
Kara started to laugh. “That will be a first. If you work with and not against them. Interesting.”
“My parents would tell you I tend to keep things interesting and never do what they want or what they think.”
“You’ll have to keep me posted on what you decide.”
Kara left and Megan started to go back to work until her phone rang. She pulled it off her desk to see it was her mother calling her.
“Hi, Mom,” she said. “What’s going on?”
“Nothing, Megan. Sorry to bother you at work, but we’ve been texting back and forth and haven’t seemed to find a time to talk.”
“Is everything okay?” Normally her mother called her at night, but they had been playing tag.
“Yes. I just wanted to let you know your father and I are leaving tomorrow. We decided to go on a little mini trip to Hilton Head with some friends. We’ll be back on Sunday.”
“That’s great,” she said. “Have fun.”
“We will. How was the wedding last Saturday? Did you have fun? Meet any men there?”
She wanted to roll her eyes. “It was a blast. I was in the wedding party and not really socializing with strangers,” she said.
“I know that,” her mother said. “I never expected that of you. But you work with all those engineers and other employees that had to be there. In a nice relaxed environment you might have gotten to know someone.”
