I never both correcting him before because it didn’t matter. Suddenly, itdoes.
Loki works his jaw. “Kennedy?”
Look at that. All this time and he couldn’t get it, but as soon as I get a download of his demon language in my brain, he finally can?
For some reason, that makes me even more angry.
Damn it. Where’s a high heel when you need one?
CHAPTER12
KENNEDY KILLS LOKI
KENNEDY
My first instinct is to run back outside if only to get away from that look on the demon’s face.
Of course, then I have a flash of the beast—
Arkoda, my mind supplies.
Wonderful. Two seconds ago, I was happy thinking of that thing as a snarling bear-beast, and now I know that the Sombrans call it.
Well, whatever that thing is, it might still be out there. It might have friends.
No, thanks.
I’m the type of woman who needs space to process her emotions so that she can make decisions. They’re often rash decisions, not gonna lie, but I make them and I stand by them.
That might not be so easy. First of all, the farthest I can safely go is the next room over. Second, whatever excuse Loki comes up with to explain whatever he did to me, it’s not like I can leave him.
Except… maybe I can.
Okay.Okay. He might have a good reason. He’s been good to me. The least I can is hear him out.
Deep breath, Kennedy.
In. Out.
Whoosa.
“Okay. Let’s start from the beginning. Can we do that, Loki?”
His gaze flickers over to the bed. Though it’s obvious he’d rather go back to doing what we were doing before, he nods. “Of course.”
Right. “What did you do to me?”
Easy enough question.
He gives me an easy answer.
“I gave you my essence.”
What isthatsupposed to mean?
“I know you must be surprised,” Loki adds. “I am, too. I never thought I would be able to share it with you, but I did.”
Funny. I’m pretty sure I got plenty of ‘essence’ the first time I slept with him…
