“Oh.” Dillon grinned. “Then be my guest. I’ll also take some fluffy eggs if you have them.”
“This isn’t a—” Jack had been snapping the words, but frowned.
“What, a restaurant?” Dillon teased.
With a roll of his gorgeous eyes, Jack took the plate and the trash can and left the room. When he returned, the trash can was cleaned out and he was carrying a plate stacked high with French toast, bacon, and scrambled eggs.
“Thanks.” Dillon smiled at Jack. “I could get used to this.”
“You’re already used to it,” I argued as Jack left. “You’ve copped a free meal from me almost every day since I opened this place.”
“I was talking about a hot waiter,” Dillon whispered. “But don’t tell my mates I said that. I’m mated, not blind, and Jack and Ken are hunks.”
So were Lucas and Mikhia, in a lethal sort of way. The kind of hotness that made you feel as if you were being a criminal just being in their presence. God, why were my thoughts so wacky?
“Hmm, he forgot my orange juice.”
But Dillon didn’t get up to get any. He dove into his plate, happily eating as I hugged my tiny trash can to my chest. The crackers were lying on my desk, but I was too afraid of putting something on my stomach.
“So, my dream…” Dillon said when half his food was gone. “I saw Fred.”
I groaned. This wasn’t going to be anything good.
“He had a shadowy figure behind him that I couldn’t make out. I also saw my ex, and after what you told me about Albert, it makes sense that he would be there if Nezat now has control over him.”
“Do you think the shadow was the demon?”
Dillon shrugged. “I couldn't make heads or tails of it, but if I had to guess, maybe? Anyway, things got dark for a minute.”
“Dark, like there wasn’t any light or like something bad was happening?”
Dillon seemed to consider that. “I think it was lack of light. You had your baby in your arms, but that could just be telling me you’re pregnant. That doesn’t necessarily mean this happened after you gave birth. You know I sometimes struggle with interpreting my dreams.”
I chanced it and got up, glad the nausea had faded as I rounded my desk and snatched the plate away from Dillon. “Can you finish telling me about your dream before you stuff your mouth again?”
Dillon whimpered as he looked at the plate in my hand. “Fine, but I get dessert for this.”
Was I going to be this insatiable when it came to eating? Was that my fate during this pregnancy? I’d denied even being pregnant, or tried to, but if Dillon had dreamed of my unborn child, then it had to be true.
Okay, no meltdown right now. If you freak out, Dillon will freak out because his hormones are all over the place. “Fine, whatever dessert you want. Now tell me the rest.”
“I thought you didn’t want to know.” Dillon tried reaching for the plate, but I pulled it away. “God, you suck. How can you deny your godchild his or her food?”
“Godchild?”
“Who else is going to be his or her godfather?” Dillon snorted as if that should have been obvious to me.
I was touched. Deeply touched. So moved that I gave him back his plate. Dillon took another large bite before he started talking again, after swallowing, of course.
“I just know something might go down, and Albert and your dad were there.”
Might? Dillon was downplaying this because we both knew his dreams came true. Why was I in the dark, and what were my ex and father doing there? Who was that shadow? I had a feeling it was Nezat, but I couldn't be that certain. Not when Dillon hadn't seen the shadow’s face.
“Look on the bright side.” Dillon licked the powdered sugar off his fingers. I was surprised he hadn't drowned his plate in syrup. “Once Nezat knows you’re pregnant, he’ll cross you off his Christmas list.”
He’d cross me off his breeder list. That was good news, but I felt kind of bad because that had been my plan. To get knocked up so he would leave me alone. That thought left a hollow feeling in my chest. Had I slept with Jack and Ken just to make sure that happened, or had I done it because I’d let things naturally progress?
I’d been totally against getting knocked up, but I sure as fuck turned that around in such a short period of time. That still perplexed me, but as with the thought of why I’d dated Albert, I wasn’t going to deep dive into that mess right now.
