I shook my head and glanced at her baby. “Should we be talking about this now?”
“I can assure you, little Lucy is dreaming of milk and lullabies right now. Spill it.”
“Fine. No, we haven’t slept together, but we’ve come close.”
“Why are you smiling like you’ve just won the lottery?” Her right brow arched.
“Am I?” I dropped my smile, but it snuck back on. “I don’t know, Danni. I know it sounds crazy, but I like the guy. Like a lot. And I know he’s absolutely not a man who’s going to settle down anytime soon.”
“How do you know?”
I debated how much to reveal. “He’s said as much, privately and publicly.”
She scowled. “Publicly?”
“He was voted Most Eligible Bachelor in Seattle, and they did a whole spread on him, and he confessed to not looking for anyone.”
She sat back on the couch with little Lucy still snug to her chest. “I’m dying over here. How could you keep this from me? Yeah. He didn’t strike me as the settling-down type.”
“Huh? How do you know?”
“I read the article. I saw the pics. My gawd, Lucy. If you can be taught by him, let him be your instructor all night long.”
My cheeks flared red, and I giggled. “Seriously? The photos are that good?”
She nodded. “They left little to the imagination. You’re telling me you haven’t seen them?”
I shook my head. “No. I have the magazine. Karlie just gave it to me the other day, but I didn’t want to read it and come up with conclusions based on some interview.”
“That’s interesting.”
“Why’s that?”
She shrugged as she slowly walked Lucy over to a small bassinet and put her inside.
“If you’re just trying to get some pointers from a cute guy, what do you care what’s said about him or what he says in an interview?”
“It’s my profession. I like to go to the source.”
“Keep telling yourself that, Lucy.”
I chuckled. “It’s true.”
She wandered to the kitchen and poured us some sparkling water. “Then why are your cheeks still as red as Cupid’s butt?”
A few seconds of silence hovered in the air as she wandered over with a glass for me.
“Because he makes me feel incredible.”
Danni smiled lovingly as I took my water from her and shoved my feet underneath me.
“It’s okay to like how a man makes you feel. It’s not a crime to let someone into your heart.”
I took a sip and nodded. “It’s not a crime, but it’s dangerous.”
“Only if you think it is.”
“Did I tell you he made homemade potato chips that were worth dying for?”
