Shep looked intrigued but didn’t say a word. Instead, he stood and nodded as a smile slowly crept onto his face. He grabbed his empty plate and mine and walked to the sink to wash them before spinning around to face me.
“You really are full of surprises.” His gaze flicked to mine.
“Is that good or bad?”
“I’ll pick you up at three o’clock on Saturday, friend,” he told me, and I realized he was no longer staying.
“Or student. You could call me your student,” I offered.
“That would make for some interesting dinner conversation on Saturday.” He laughed and slowly walked out the door while I sat glued to my chair, wondering how I kept getting in deeper and deeper with Shep.
It probably would have been easier just to sleep with the man.
Chapter Fifteen
Just Call Me Mr. Professor
Shep
I didn’t know what the hell had happened. My plan the other night had been to cook dinner for Lucy, sweep her off her feet, and have the best night of my life with her.
Now, we were standing in my living room with my sister, her husband, their child, and a baby-on-the-way all fawning over Lucy while my best friend and his wife, Skylar, snickered in the corner. He’d recognized Lucy instantly from the woman who’d ignored me at the bar and won him five hundred bucks.
Meanwhile, I’d somehow been duped into helping to sexually train Lucy so I could send her off into the world for another man.
What the hell did my life turn into?
Were all divorce lawyers this complicated, or was it just Lucy?
Was she even capable of finding her Mr. Right since I was her Mr. Wrong?
And did she really want to be my student? Did she really expect me to teach her the Shep ways before she ditched me?
The thought got me all riled up.
“What do you think, Shep?” she asked, giggling.
I turned my attention back to Lucy and felt my knees nearly give out and the breath rush out of my lungs. She was gorgeous, but I couldn’t let myself go down that path. Not with her latest offer. So, I took a sip of beer. “About what? Sorry.”
Mike walked over and patted my shoulder. “Looks like your mind is elsewhere, buddy.”
I grimaced. “You could say that.”
“I told them what I do for a living and how you’re my complete Mr. Wrong.” Her smile grew, and she reached over to squeeze my hand. “Which is why we’re destined to be friends.”
My sister stomped her foot. “No. That sounds like a match made in heaven.” Winter’s brows wiggled up and down while her husband laughed.
“Oh, no.” I shook my head. “There is no match here. Lucy has made that wildly clear.”
“And why is that?” Lucy teased. “Would you like to inform them of our first meeting?”
I waved my hand in the air, noticing a playful smirk on Lucy’s lips that drove me insane. I just wanted to kiss those lips. “A little prank gone wrong.”
She tapped her foot playfully while my sister looked intrigued, as did Mike’s wife.
Mike already knew the backstory, obviously.
“I wouldn’t call it little.” She tipped her chin and let out a laugh. “He met me at a matchmaking event. Only he said his name was Terry.”
