I took a bite of the frittata. “Delicious.”

“Don’t change the subject.”

“Fine. Maybe it’s not technically three dates, but it kind of is.”

“That’s pretty black and white.” My sister glanced at her husband.

Brad laughed. “It’s Shep. Nothing is ever black and white.”

“Fine. I went to a matchmaking event on a dare.”

“You did? That’s so sweet.”

“Except that I pretended to be a guy named Perry.”

My sister groaned. “That sounds more like the guy I know.”

“But I confessed right on the spot.”

My sister and Brad looked surprised.

“And that worked?” Winter asked.

I shook my head. “No, she about jumped over the table to strangle me.”

“Okay. I’m lost.” she eyed me.

“Well, then I was at the bar with my buddy, and in walks Lucy. I knew it was meant to be. She completely ignored me and hung out with her sister for a birthday party for about fifteen minutes before leaving.”

“Okay.” Winter put more bacon on her plate. “Where’s this leading?”

“I asked her sister for Lucy’s number, which she gave me.” I drew a breath. “So, I called her for a date.”

“And let me guess. You didn’t tell her you were Perry.”

I scowled and laughed, knowing how awful it sounded. “Of course not. Anyway, she downgraded me from dinner to coffee. So, that was date two.”

Brad laughed. “You counted the matchmaking event as a date?”

“It counts. Anyway, I won her over with my charming ways at coffee, and we wound up going out to dinner.”

“So, that’s how you got to three dates?” My sister grinned. “That’s kind of pushing it.”

I beamed. “Well, we’re headed out to dinner tomorrow too. We both know it’s not going anywhere, but it should be fun while it lasts.”

Winter snickered. “Well, that’s the spirit.”

“Now, tell me why you invited me over.”

Winter looked at Brad and then put her hand on her belly. “I’m pregnant.”

I didn’t know what I was doing, agreeing to another dinner with Shep.
