The moment I pulled into the parking lot, I let out a deep breath. I’d made it unscathed and could let him know this was going to be a one-and-done date.
But the moment I saw Shep stepping out of his Porsche, my heart fluttered, and my cheeks flushed.
He’d changed into a dark navy suit, and the way the pants fit around his waist and thighs left nothing to my imagination.
He gave a quick wave and smile as he walked over to the parking stall I pulled into.
My doors unlocked, and he opened the driver’s side and helped me out.
“What a gentleman,” I said.
He laughed and shook his head, still holding onto my hand. “You sound surprised.”
I grinned. “Maybe a little.”
When we stepped onto the sidewalk, he stopped walking and took a step back. “You’re absolutely stunning, Lucy. Breathtaking.”
Heat ran through me again, and I had to take a slow, deep breath without looking at him to regain control.
I glanced toward the flickering patio lights from the restaurant and knew I was in trouble.
“You’re not so bad yourself. The suit looks nice.”
Shep nodded. “I’ll take that. It’s better than getting downgraded to coffee.”
I laughed as we walked into the restaurant. “But look where it landed you tonight. Dinner out.”
He wiggled his brows, and his blue eyes sparkled. “Big time.”
I studied him as he walked over to the hostess and gave her his last name for the reservations.
But as we took a step forward, she grinned and nodded.
“Right this way, Shep.”
Chapter Nine
A Little Nookie
Shep
Lucy scowled as the hostess handed her the menu.
“Thank you,” she muttered, and I tried not to laugh.
The woman was freaking gorgeous even when she was mad.
Mad about what, I hadn’t the foggiest.
I looked out the window to see the sunset bouncing off Lake Union in various shades of pink and purple.
“Amazing night,” I said softly, glancing at her staring at the menu.
“Sure is.” She didn’t look up.
I leaned over the table and started to whisper. “Is there something I need to know? Did you see an ex or…”
Her gaze snapped to mine. “I don’t have any exes.”
