Amelia took the one closest to her by the throat. The enemy wolf screamed with pain. But its shrieks were cut short.

She spat the fur out as metallic, salty blood filled her mouth.

Beside her, the two lion shifters with their large claws had swatted at the others. The guards were dead in seconds.

She picked up Tripp’s scent again, and next to her, the lion shifters were shifting to their human form. They each pulled two handguns that were holstered at the ankles. They stayed close to the walls. Amelia followed them, allowing them to take the lead.

She kept her nose in the air, tracking Tripp’s scent. She could smell her mate; he was close by. And as they prowled through the dark passageways, she realized that Tripp smelled a little bit like her.

Some of her leopard’s scent had rubbed off on him. And she knew some of his wolf’s had rubbed off on her.

She stopped dead in her tracks when she sniffed the air again. Tripp was only a few feet away.

Suddenly a trio of guards came running down the hallway. The lion shifters took out two of them with bullets. Amelia leapt through the air, ripping the third guard’s gun away with her mouth.

And then, with one giant snarl, she took his head off.

TWENTY-FOUR

TRIPP

Tripp caught Amelia’s scent in the air as soon as she entered the building.

His heart lifted, but he did not dare let it show on his face. Craig was still in the room, and he didn’t want to alert his half-brother.

Amelia wouldn’t have come alone. She would have brought backup. But he wanted her to have all the advantages she could get.

“So, what are your plans for us now?” Tripp asked Craig casually. He had to keep him distracted. Craig looked up at him, his eyes flashing. He noticed then that Craig’s eyes were the same shade and color as his father’s.

Something twanged in his chest. It felt a lot like regret.

Regret for what his father had done. His father had completely destroyed the relationship between his sons. All because he wanted to protect his pride and reputation.

“I’m going to kill you both, of course,” Craig said, his voice nonchalant. “I am your next of kin. I have a claim to everything you have right now. And everything our dear old dad left you.”

There was no expression of guilt on Craig’s face. Tripp knew that Craig was too far gone. There was no saving him anymore.

Even though his father had been responsible for all this. He didn’t even feel remorse at the fact that he would be killing his own brother.

The part of him that was the wolf didn’t care about Craig. All it wanted was vengeance. And slowly, Tripp allowed the wolf to take over because he had scented Amelia again. And she was closer than ever.

But it seemed that Craig had heard whatever was happening out there. His brother’s head shot up. He looked around warily, then went over to a wall of monitors. Craig flicked a few switches, and the monitors blinked to life.

Craig, Tripp, and Gloria watched as several shifters stormed down the hallways.

There was no sign of Craig’s guards.

Craig swore violently, balling his right hand into a fist and slamming it into the wall. Tripp watched the monitors as a half dozen shifters streamed from the rooms of the building. Those were the shifters who had hauled him and his mother into the room with Craig.

Where Craig had planned to kill them.

Tripp glanced at his mother. Gloria stayed silent, nodding at the words he mouthed. That was his cue. Using his shifter strength, he ripped through the leather cuffs.

Craig had no time to react as Tripp shifted from human to wolf. His body contorted and changed quickly, his human features vanishing. Craig stumbled backward before disappearing into the wall behind him.

Tripp clawed at the wall, noticing a small switch. But try as he might, he couldn’t get the door to open. It didn’t matter. He would get to Craig eventually. His half-brother could not hide forever.

He turned quickly and, using his claws and teeth, freed Gloria. At the same time, the door burst open. And there stood Amelia in all her glory.
