Tripp had a lot to think about.

FIVE

AMELIA

“Hey, guys? Do we have anything? I sent you the message five minutes ago.” Amelia let her annoyance come through in her voice. She knew how things worked. They needed to snatch up the signal quickly, or they would lose it.

“We are on it. But our people are having issues,” Nick said. Amelia could also hear the irritation in his voice. She did not press. He knew how important this was, and it wasn’t her place to tell Nick how to do his job even though the words scratched at her lips to be let out.

“Okay. Keep in touch.” Amelia sighed.

Nick had left soon after she was introduced to Tripp, and she sent him a text as soon as the TV message started. He had his guys start tracing it then, but it didn’t seem that they were able to find anything.

“I will. Do not leave Tripp alone tonight. If we can’t get a lead on this trace, we still need to make sure he’s protected. You are the last line of defense we have.”

Amelia’s snow leopard purred in her chest at the thought of spending the night with Tripp. “That’s fine. I will be with him, boss.”

“Amelia, I don’t like how that sounded,” Nick warned.

“It’s fine. He’s fine. I’m fine. We are all fine here, Nick.” Amelia could have kicked herself for being so obvious but continued. “You hired me to do a job. When have I ever been inappropriate or mishandled a situation?”

“True.”

“Good. I’m glad we agree. Talk with you later, Nick.”

“Yep. Watch out for him, Amelia.”

“Got it.” Amelia hung up before she could say anything else that would allude to her attraction to Tripp. She watched him. A tingling sensation rippled over her skin and down her spine. She bit her bottom lip as she thought about what he would look like naked.

Tripp turned his attention to her right when her features were most suggestive. He raised his brows in her direction.

She refused to look embarrassed in front of him and didn’t bother with it. Instead, she cocked her head to the side and motioned for him to meet her in the hallway.

As she snapped her attention away from him, her thoughts began to work around Craig Melton. It didn’t seem like they were going to find him. Concern poked around in her chest. Her company was one of the top security companies in the state.

If anyone could find him, it should be hers. They hired hackers who had been caught and gave them ways to make a clean living while still using their abilities. If Craig could hide from them, he was a force to be sure.

In the hall, Amelia leaned against the wall. She crossed her arms and let her mind put together the puzzle pieces.

She didn’t think Craig would be much of a problem if he didn’t have money to travel. But what did Gloria know about him? She would have to talk further with Tripp and Gloria to make sure that he was in dire straits, as they believed.

The left side of her body prickled with heat. She turned to see that Tripp was very close to her. “Hi,” he said. His lush lashes framed his eyes. Amelia did her best not to lunge at him.

She broke eye contact with him and focused her attention on the wall. “We need to end the party and get you safe.”

“Will you be coming with me?”

Amelia looked at him. Heat resonated between them. “Yes. But I also have a job to do. So, distracting me will not help me keep you safe. Can I speak with your mother?”

“That’s a great way to douse things.” He came closer, his heat calling to her. The attraction was inevitable, and her leopard cried out for him, especially as he caged her against the wall between his arms.

She placed a hand on his chest. “This is going to be amazing. But we need to work first.”

“My mom is in the other room,” Tripp whispered.

“You’re very forward for someone who just met me.”

“Well, you’re making it easy for me.” Tripp smiled as he pulled away. Amelia smiled at him.
