After we check into the hotel, I fall onto the bed, and instead of calling, I FaceTime her. Wondering if it’s going to be weird between us since we took our relationship to the next level.
She picks up after two rings. “Hello,” she greets and the smile that fills my face when I see her on the screen is huge.
“Hi,” I say softly, wishing I was with her. “I miss you. How was your day?”
She takes a deep breath in. “Well, I broke the news to my mother that her daughter is a jailbird.” She laughs and I know it still hurts her.
“Was she okay?” I want to kick myself for not being there.
“She took it a lot better than I thought she would have.” She smiles slyly. “I took Max with me and he was raging at the charges, so she didn’t want to upset him more.”
I throw my head back and I can’t help but laugh. “You are just full of surprises.”
She looks into the phone. “After last night, there is nothing that is a surprise anymore.”
“Well, there could be one more surprise,” I say and she looks at me confused. “We didn’t use protection.”
“Oh, that.” She throws her head back and laughs. “I’m on the pill.” She looks at me. “I’ve never been without one. So I’m clean.”
“Same,” I say and she rolls her eyes.
“You don’t have to say same because I said it,” she huffs. “It’s whatever.”
“It’s not whatever,” I say tightly. “Why would I lie about it?”
“I don’t know. Also, I now know why I have never had sex in my apartment before.” She shakes her head. “It smelled like a brothel in here today.” I laugh now. “Thank God I didn’t invite Max in.” I can’t help but laugh at her and all the doubt I had about it being weird between us is put to rest.
CHAPTER29
Julia
“We should do this more often,” Erika says from beside me. I look up seeing all the girls who have gathered in Jillian’s house. The guys are on the road, so the grandparents are in town to take over babysitting duty. They literally live for this shit.
Franny showed up with four bottles of wine, which means we are probably all going to sleep here. Vivienne shocked the shit out of me when she walked in after Franny. She lives in New York, and if she comes to visit, it’s usually for the weekend and not the middle of the week. Erika showed up with three bags of food. Alex showed up with two boxes of doughnuts and a box of specialty cookies.
We are all in the family room, the coffee table is filled with food. The bottles of wine are being passed around. Franny and Vivienne sit on the floor with their backs to the couch. Erika, Jillian, Alex, and myself are all spaced out on the massive U-shaped couch.
My phone buzzes in my hand and I look down and see it’s a text from Chase. I can’t help the smile that fills my face.
Chase: I miss you.
“Who just texted you?” Vivienne asks from in front of me, looking over her shoulder at me.
“Um, no one,” I say, trying to ignore the stares I’m getting. My hands start to sweat with nerves. It’s one thing telling my sister we banged like bunny rabbits, but it’s a whole different ball game with all of his female relatives. Especially his two sisters and sister-in-law.
“So you smiled like you just won the lottery for no one?” Franny rolls her eyes at me.
“Okay, fine,” I say, throwing my hands up. “It’s Chase!” I take the time to look at each woman in their eyes.
“Why do you sound like you’re one second away from a freak-out?” Alex laughs at me.
“Because I think I am,” I admit to them and Jillian sits up on the couch. I can already hear the wheels turning in her brain.
“I told you it was a bad idea.” She points at me, her eyes glaring at me, her jaw clenched tight. “I literally said, you can’t do that.”
“I know,” I huff out. “But I did and oh my God. The sex was the best I’ve ever had in my whole life.” I shake my head. “Like over and over again he can make me orgasm in two minutes flat. Maybe even less. I mean, he has it all, oh my God.”
“High five,” Erika says, holding up her hand from the other end of the couch. “Cooper is that good, he just…” She sighs and smiles. “There was this one time we were on the…” She brings her glass of wine to her lips.
