“Grey. She’s pregnant. You’ll be a good dad. Congratulations.”

The fake smile is a response I force myself to give Carey. My focus is all over the place as I exit the house. Charles waits for me in the car. He picks up on my flustered state.

“You go ahead,” I tell him, stumbling over my words. “I’ll join you in a bit. I… I need to access some of my funds.”

I refer to the funds Andre left me when he died, the secret ones in the dark web and the banks overseas. I add, “We need all the help we can get.”

“Are you okay?” Charles asks, and I instantly nod.

“Yes.”

“She’s not the only kid in trouble. There are more. You need to focus, Remo. Do what you need to do and then join me at the office,” Charles warns me. His eyes inspect me thoroughly, but there isn’t much to extract.

I’ve turned selfish once again.

Although they claim that what I’ve set my mind to do isn’t selfish. It’s a cry for help, but I don’t want any help. I want to find my peace, don’t I?

Why would Carey lie? Grey’s pregnant, and she didn’t tell me. Of course, she didn’t. Why would she? I’m only another problem—not her partner.

I don’t deserve to be a dad to anyone.

I enter our garage, and I grab the keys to one of our older cars, the ones without any tracking system on them. There’s not a lot of time to leave unnoticed. The car’s old, and its engine makes a lot of noise. I’ve woken up Vegas by now. By design? Am I craving his attention that much?

Do I want him to stop me?

He doesn’t know me well enough to realize what I’ve got planned.

I’m a giving brother, though. Vegas can still have it all. It’s not too late. Out of the two of us, he’s the bigger man. He treats our woman how she deserves to be treated.

He doesn’t pressure her or make her feel guilty.

He’s the right guy, along with Charles. They’re the heroes in this scenario. Charles will solve this case, and he’ll bring justice to Carey Jean. That’s his job.

I’m just another murderer—the guy that can’t do his job right.

My family will be better off without me ruining their happiness.
