“Koxians don’t have last names.”
“No duplicates?”
“Not that I’m aware of.”
“Why did you come here?”
“To Earth? We didn’t exactly care for the new leadership on Vukox, and the new leader didn’t like us, so when we petitioned to leave, we were told we could.”
“As simple as that?”
“Considering I had also been up to potentially be the leader instead of her… yes, she didn’t mind my leaving with my biggest supporters.”
“Oh, wow,” she murmurs.
“Do you want to talk about that or what we’re going to do once we’re finished up here?” I ask casually. “I’m fine either way.”
“Eventually, we’re going to have to come up with a plan,” she agrees. “Any idea?”
She’s washing her hair, her boobs bouncing, and I find it hard to think about anything at all but stare.
“Are you still there?” she asks.
I swallow hard. “Yes, I’m still here.”
“No ideas, huh?”
Oh, I have plenty of ideas but not one of them is suitable to say allow and none of them are about leaving this hotel room anytime soon.

The showercurtain is a bit sheer, and I purposely don’t look over to see if Alec is watching or not. After his reminder about how much he had wanted me, and there’s no way I can deny that, I don’t think I mind if he watches. He does make me feel desired, even if now is so not the time for that.
“Running away won’t solve our problem,” I say.
“No, it won’t.”
“But heading back to his place would cause so many people to be killed,” I add.
“I don’t want that. You can believe me on that point.”
“Oh, I do. And you’re right. It’s personal between me and Joelo.” I hesitate. “And the two of you, hmm?”
“Vukox and Grel are in the same solar system,” I explain. “Like Earth and Mars and the planets here. Throughout millenniums, Koxians and Grelites haven’t gotten along. There have even been a few wars.”
“A war between planets?” I’m appalled.
“Yes.” He grunts. “It’s terrible. We showed up here first, and then a few months later, Joelo and his posse did, and ever since, it’s been a bit touch and go.”
“But it’s escalated recently. Do you have any idea why?”
“Honestly, no, but I hate it. I hate that you’ve been dragged into this, but I don’t want to lose you, so I’ll tell you anything and everything. I need you in my life.”
I’m still all torn up over this, and I honestly don’t know what to think. I’m so glad that Alec is opening up to me, but…
“I wish you would’ve told me yourself that you’re an alien.”
