“What the fuck do you mean she’s gone?”

“They came in the back. She killed two of them—”

“Killed?” I interrupt, not believing it and yet accepting it readily enough.

“They took her. Kidnapped her. Well, just one.”

“Adan Conti, Nigel Snider, and Jamey Loftis?” I question even though it doesn’t really matter who Joey sent or which ones she killed.

I’m just trying to process this.

Kidnapped.

She’s been kidnapped.

Teri.

My Teri.

Why would Joey have her taken and not just killed?

What the fuck does he want from her?

Is it just a ploy to get me out in the open?

Because that is so fucking happening.

It’s a trap, I know it is, but that doesn’t matter.

“Yeah. She killed Adan and Nigel.”

“That shaved fuck is going to have his head detached,” I snap. “Where did he take her?”

“I’m tailing them now.”

I’m so out of it that I didn’t even realize he’s been shouting over the roar of the wind from him riding his bike.

“If you have the chance to save her, take it, but if not, just stay back and watch. Get a layout of the place. See how many guards they have, what they’re up to, all of that.”

“Will do, Boss.”

“Where were you?” I ground out.

I can’t help myself. I have to know how this happened.

“Like I said, they came in the back… but before that, they used some kind of gas on me.”

“Gas?”

“I got myself a rental car to hide in. Thought it would be easier to watch her with my bike nearby. They gassed me. I was out. Not more than two minutes. Less than they thought, I’m sure, but I woke just as Jamey was shoving her into the car. I almost managed to blow out a tire, but my aim was off from the residual effects of the gas. I checked the house, saw the dead bodies, and called you.”

“Can you even drive right now?” I ask.

“It’s a little harder than normal. My mind’s a bit of a mess, but I got this, Boss. I’m sorry. I let you down—”

“They’re playing dirty. What gas could they have used?”

“No idea.”
