A knock sounds at the door, and I grow rigid. I stomp over and check the peephole.

“I’ll just leave the clothes here for you,” the hotel worker says. “If you need anything else, please just call the front desk, okay? Just press zero.”

I wait until I can’t hear her footsteps any more to open the door and grab the bag and shut the door again.

“Here we go,” I say, crossing over to the bed so I can dump out the clothes.
